Introductory Campaign Arc: Final Sanction - Extraction - Oblivion's Edge

By cogollo, in Deathwatch Gamemasters

Some time ago I started a post in which I explained some ideas I had for running a campaign arc using the three demo scenarios supplied with the game. To see my original post:

www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_foros_discusion.asp

The main ideas were:

1. I wanted to use miniatures to run the tactical situations in the game (we have plenty of AT-43 minis in my club and they work well with other Warhammer 40K minis). We also use plenty of d6s (we use 4 boxes of 50 different colored d6s each; cheap and easy to find). I use two colors to mark damage on sub-Hordes, one color to mark damage to cover and the extra color for miscellaneous effects.

2. I want to have two different Kill-Teams each solving a different mission, the result of these first two mission having an effect on the Oblivion's Edge mission, in which both Kill-Teams will cooperate.

Well, in the meantime I started running the Final Sanction in my gaming club and we had lots of fun. We have run 3 sessions so far with two gigantic battles (the one at the Chapel and the Rebel assault on the House of Echoes) and with an exciting Chase scene in the Governor's palace, plus plenty of muscle-showing-off, strategic planning, cool Space Marine quotes and role-playing in between.

The end result is that my players helped me a lot in streamlining some of the house rules I had created, specially the ones concerning Hordes. The result is that I have changed a bit the original documents I posted. The main changes I have done to the house rules is that damage to the Hordes is done as per the official rules (although I keep using the sub-Horde concept as it applies very well for minis) and that the Hordes benefit from cover. Basically what I do is that I half the AP value of cover (and round up), then for each hit on a sub-Horde, I roll 1d10 and a hit is cancelled if the result is equal to the cover value or less... of course cover degrades as per the official rules.

In case you are interested in the ideas (even if you don't use minis and don't want to use my house rules you may find some of my proposals interesting for running the scenario), here are the links to the latest version of my preparations of the Final Sanction scenario... This time I don't think I will change them any more:

And that's all. As we play Deathwatch roughly every other week in my club (we alternate with a D&D 4th and a Pathfinder campaign), I think it will take us 1-2 more months to finish the scenario. I'll let you know how did it go and then I'll do the preparations for the Extraction scenario and will post them in a new post. If you want to use some of the ideas above and find them confusing, just send me a PM or reply to this post and I'll answer as best+soon as I can.
