Where's my thunder-fire Cannon?

By BrotherCaptainMagni, in Deathwatch

I'll admit a kinda joke thread title but I was wondering if anyone has made homebrew stats for this particular miniatures game item and if so if there's an easy link for it. That being said I'd love to see a Deathwatch supplement covering the heavier weapons available to both Space Marines and the Imperium as a whole, though I think the "There is Only War" and other products will most likely cover these.

In the meantime Long live the Omnissiah

Thunderfire is the big-ass gatling on small tracks, right?

Maybe work with your GM to stat it as a Follower?

Based on www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_foros_discusion.asp Surface Burst would be something like:

-/-/8 2d10+8X Pen 4 Blast(3), Devastating(1) [or Blast(5), no Devastating - if you prefer]

You probably can extrapolate the other two from there.

Alex

Thanks for the input, with that as a base it should be easy enough to fully flesh out.

Why full -/-/8 rather than -/-/4?

Because as the thread in my sig implies the rate of fire in 40 x2 approximates the ROF in DW rather well. Of course that thread was pre-RoB and pre-errata but it's still an accurate rule of thumb, give or take 1 shot. -/-/7 or -/-/9 wouldn't be completely off-base either.

Or to phrase it differently: in 40K the gun has a higher ROF than a HB and the same as an Assault Cannon.

Alex

I see what you mean by that, in most cases. Although it's fast and loose rule even for the published stuff.

But clearly in TT it doesn't count every bullet untill it get's to a certain point. Many low strength weapons are bursts of bullets even when they are only dice to roll. The Thunderfire is firing small artillery shells, easily enough to be worth counting each one, where as the assault cannon assumes that each hit can be a veritable hail of shells (hence the rending special rule). Likwise I don't think the Mega bolter and Punisher cannons are 5 times fast firing than an assault cannon, possible the same, but the shells are large enough that almost every shell is worth counting on it's own.

I guess the only reason i say that is that it really looks like a 4 shot gun, possible even only having 4 shots.

Sorry if you've been through this before.

Fair enough but it's still a good approximation of the TT. So if you want to have that feel, ROF 8 is a good approach.

ROF 4 might be more realistic though. In that case you need to up the effect of the barrage (radius, damage, Devastating(1), etc).

Alex

Yeah i can see, i did think the radius seemed quite low, I mean yes it's the direct translation but still the low end compared to others. And i can't remember the damage of each type but it seems on the low side so I see what you did.
