Supplements

By Nemezis2, in Black Crusade

Hi guys, i'm new here (and i dont speak english as my primary language, so sorry for any mistakes).

I've bought a copy of Black Crusade and it is awesome.

However i feel that some supplements are needed, and, so far, we have none.

The game was released a while back, the other lines got books earlier.

I'm afraid that this line may not get the healty support that the other ones have.

I'm the only one concened about this?

Regarding concerns: Keep in mind that FFG's WH40K RPG currently has 4 core books included, and while they released Black Crusade late summer of last year, the acquiring of the Star Wars Liscense has also thrown a lot of company power behind the new stuff I'm guessing. As much as I love 40K, the Star Wars Liscense has way more potential than WH40K in terms of it's broad-base support especially amongst those who might not be gamers normally (Why do you think D&D is the entry game for some stupid high percentage of RPG players) In addition with the christmas season I really don't expect the first Black Crusade supplements to be out until early spring, though that's going by my normal ranges and I tend to buy from brick n' morter/FLGS's In addition they have released the introductory adventure book as they've done with the other products. In the meantime I'll say that Disciples of the Dark Gods and Radical's Handbook are both good supplements for the more chaos-leaning side of the game. All i can say is be patient and enjoy the chaos-goodness of the game, or work on homebrew stuff, Or check out the thread "Preview Documents, Supplements & Errata started by me. Inform these wonderful game designers and authors what kind of stuff you'd like to see in the supplements

First, the norm for FFG's WH40K RPGs has been to start putting added products out about 6 months after the launch of the core book. I don't think we got Black Crusade until September (or was it later?), so we have some time to wait and still be on course.

Second, I don't think that I've seen work of any plans for a Star Wars RPG. Not that I've really looked, but did I just not get the memo?

I just hope we get a Players' Handbook and an antagonists book. All else is secondary.

Deeply disappointed that first published supplement will be a campaign. I never use them.

[RANT on]The ones that should become concerned about a lack of support are those playing DH for their material is either delayed or not worth the money[RANT off]

I would not worry, so. The GM-Kit was out early. While the only thing worthwhile in the booklet was the adventure, the core rules of BC give you a very broad range of NPC, skills, talents, and equipment. Compared to DH, it is like the DH core would have been added with elements of "Inquisitors Handbook" and "Disciples of the Dark Gods".

But: what are you looking for exactly?
If you need some other nefarious groups, I suggest to "steal" Disciplies of the Dark Gods" from DH. The organizations depicted here should be useable in a BC campaign as well. Especially if your are lead your group into the Calixis.

Do you need critters and xenos and other oppoenents? Try "Mark of the Xenos" from Deathwatch. While the wounds need some downward-adjustment, it has some opponents I could imagine to field against BC players as well.

Nothing for sure on the Star Wars RPG but I can't believe that they won't take advantage of it, plus They accquired the liscense at the end of summer last year, just about the time BC hit shelves. I agree with Happydaze.

I couldn't disagree more mate.

Black Crusade has great potential, but is the toughest of the 40K RPGs to actually turn into a campaign; limitless possibilities, but practically no source material or apparent direction.

There is more than Player material for now in the main book, and antagonists are easily adapted from earlier material, but what to do in terms of adventures, let alone a campaign is far more difficult .

The first supplement is always an adventure, I don't know why this is surprising. Rogue Trader had to wait almost a year to get their players guide.

Not surprised, disappointed. I have no use for ready-made adventures.

I think black crusade was intentionally designed to be more of a player driven game, though most of the Warhammer 40K books have been pretty good with their mix of fluff and crunch. The other lines, save for rogue trader are very DM/Story Driven in feel, Missons and the like as opposed to player created endeavours. I will admit that for those not familiar with the fluff of the setting that black-crusade might not be the best introductory game, and the choice thing has merit in that people getting into a game the first time tend to appreciate more structure, at least so far as I've found and heard about.

I guess it helps that I'm a long time WoD and Exalted GM, so I'm partial to both bad guys campaigns and games with great freedom of action.

We've played a fair bit of WoD, but the advantage there is that it is grounded in a basically present-day setting, which makes coming up with player ideas and GM designed locations/NPCs easy.

Although we have been plying Deathwatch for a while, I don't think it's prepared us for what Heretics do on a day-to day basis, or how society functions on Chaos-dominated planets.

That said, the material in the GM Kit was helpful, and the adventure looks very usable.
