Anouncing The Moonboy Classic- 3/31/2012

By Kennon, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Alrighty, consider this this official announcement post for Valar Midwestous' next Regional size event. This year we're looking at doing two events, and the actual Regional won't be till much later, but for the present, I highly suggest that you all mark down your calendars for the date and keep it open.

Details are still coalescing, but there will be a joust tournament on Saturday the 31st of March, probably starting around noon or 1:00 as per our other events. Friday night will be freeplay and hangout time, with details on Sunday's event to come. We're open to suggestions for standard melee, Kingsmoot, Hand of the King, Civil War, etc.

I don't want to spoil things out of turn, but I already know that we're exploring some pretty cool options for prizes, and with out central location, this isn't an event that you'll want to miss!

Where? The Cincinnati players went to Chicago for Regionals last year, depending on how close you are, we may come visit!

Hahaha, whoops. I forget, not everyone knows that Valar Midwestous is based out of Springfield, Missouri!

Ok, now that I've spoken to the store organizer and gotten the clearance on this, more info commeth:

Grand Prize: Paid GenCon entry badge!

Booya!

Also, I've got a very talented graphic artist friend of mine hard at work on a special project for the tournament....

You may want to edit the title of your post here. Otherwise, people are going to think this is an event report, not an event invitation. gui%C3%B1o.gif

****! Can't believe I screwed up the date! Ummm.... is there any way to edit this by now?

Yeah, click report to moderator link, then in the URL change registrar to editar

Is there a tournament on march 3ed also??

Yes, and this Saturday as well. We're really looking at gearing up to win down here again.

Also, for those keeping track of prizes and goodies, we have designs in hand for new, much cooler custom house cards and are in the process of completing those. Once we've got the design finalize, I'll throw up a sample image here for all to see.

Alrighty, in the realm of news for prizes, I wanted to update folks on another neat feature we're going to have. I've been in talks with Damon to have the 1st and 2nd place players conduct a brief Skype interview with him for the podcast on Sunday.

Final details are still being ironed out, but it will be something along the lines of players submitting a question when they pre-register so that we can collect them and get the ok from FFG for him to answer, then we'll Skype him in on Sunday for those players to ask their question for all our listeners to hear.

Stay tuned for more neat stuff that I have in the works!

A facebook event page has been created. You can find it here .

Feel free to RSVP through the event page!

Alrighty, I wanted to bump this up and get it back in front of folks, it sounds like pre-registration with Meta-Games Unlimited will begin on March 1st. Be ready!

Hey guys, it's getting close now. There were some problems getting the Paypal link working on the store's website for pre-registration, but feel free to call in a pre-reg and check out the Metagames Unlimited site. Also, make sure you check the Moonboy Classic event page on Facebook. If you have an account and are contemplating going, please mark yourself down at least as a maybe, though a straight up yes is preferable if you're certain. This way we can get a good feel for attendance and make appropriate arrangements. Also, we can further respond to questions and make announcements both there and here.

Thanks all, and I look forward to beating you all! ;)

I apologize for not posting this sooner...I guess I assumed it was a given, but I still should have posted it....

Anyone wanting to come in from out of town for the Moonboy Classic and needing a place to stay, my place is available. I have five beds, a sectional couch that sleeps 2 as well as 3 inflatable mattresses. So I have plenty of room!

Just let me know!

The more the merrier!

Not surprisingly, I will be unavailable for what I am sure will be a glorious event, but I demand in the most emphatic terms possible that extensive coverage of said event be made accessible to the general public, both during and after the proceedings. In other words, we want tourney reports!

Most certainly! I've already planned to go back to my old practice of taking notes between games, and I'll then use those to write up a tourney report for CardGameDB or the utilize it on the Podcast depending on how things go. I'm also hoping that Greg and Brett do the same. I'll be attempting to update as often as I can during the tournament itself, but be prepared for the possibility of it slipping my mind as the day wears on. What I'm most excited about is collecting the actual decklists for our Top 8 so that they can be publicized and discussed. I'll be putting the lists up on CGDB for sure, with possibly an overall tournament feature there, and then save my own performance specific report for the podcast. Something along those lines.

Actually I'm going to need my decklist back after the tourney.

Excellent! You are, as they say, the man.

Very cool ideas, thank you.

If it is not to much of a hassle i have another idea. How about having a special table with a couple of static video cameras (or photographic ones filming) on tripods filming the matches that are played there....nothing fancy. Afterwords, and since the sound is probably going to be really bad, you guys could comment some of the matches...or better yet some of the plays made there (editing) and make a special episode of 2c1c Video Edition to go along with the podcast. It could be similar to the octgn streaming but not live.

Anyway, I hope its a good tournament, and that Bara wins (without wildings or maesters...pure Bara).

Yeah I was going to talk to the Missouri Crew about doing something like that. Not sure if its feasible at all (I have no idea what video equipment they have available or anything), so we'll see how it goes. And don't worry Francisco! I'll be there rocking straight Baratheon Nobles!

I'll create a new thread about this idea, technical aspects, feasibility problems, etc................... don't want to get the focus out of the tourney in the tourney thread.

PS: Good Luck Staton!

Yes, we were looking at doing something like that, but the expert in our crew on that sort of thing, Alex (who's going to school for it) will be out of town at a video competition of some kind this weekend. Hopefully, though, we can get his help to do so for our Regional event here in a couple months.
