Thats not good lol
I am pretty sure you are able to embed a Facebook feed now Via HTML5? Not 100% sure tho, never really looked into it. But yes I found the contact info and I added you on msn and sent you a Offline IM.
Talisman Island - Lucky 13 Competition (Winners!!)
As far as contact in general is concerned, there's a much better answer when it comes to web systems of any kind, and it doesn't require annoying popups or leaving one's email address open to spam bots and web spiders. Simply sign up for on of the free online email form services that can be embedded in any basic page and provide a CAPTCHA form for secure communications from visitors. One simple page can then be linked via a contact link on multiple pages in multiple sites.
All email then comes into one email account that you designate via secured service and your emial address is never exposed. I use FoxyForm.com for all of mine, though there are other such services out there to choose from. They are quick and easy to set up and provide simple code to embed in any page without the need of serverside ASP/PHP, HTML5, JQuery, etc.
In my sig is a Contact link which works this way. In my case, I have different forms linked to different email accounts then filtered into different mail folders on arrival based on individual sites that I manage. Jon, this would at least let you get those email addresses out of your page, though such secured mail services do not allow attachments (and shouldn't for security reasons). And I for one am against any form of popup used at TalismanIsland.com or elsewhere.
With the number of free file hosting services, there is no longer any reason for people to email file attachments, which is another security risk... especially to people who don't know you personally. Simply load the file to such a service... or get something like DropBox account for free. You can even put the file in a none public area of your account and then email a shared link for a submission.
Oh really?!?! I never knew that
I am going to test it out
I am going to college for Web Design + Gaming Development April 16th so I am bound to learn this but I really never knew that. thank you so much.
Just be a little picky about it. Some private file sharing services aren't really for sharing, such as SpiderOak. I've tried a lot of them, and to sink to promotion, I like DropBox the best (though I don't like that they recently downgraded all free accounts from the original 5G to 2G.) Same to said for secure email form services. Again, I liked Foxy the best, but shop around a little to see what's out there.
I'm an ex-patriot of the IT industry (ten years way back as a partner in a private consultancy), though I've been out of the game for a while now (more than a decade). And with that...
Looking forward to seeing what people have submitted. Hopefully (hint hint), Jon can find a way (and time) to provide a little run down on what was submitted besides the winner.
Jon,
Can we do more than one entry ? I have 2 ideas and not sure which one to go with.
Having said that, life will probably get in the way and I will end up doing neither...
Also, am I right in that the instructions count as an item ? Really ? I would really like that to not be the case...
Instructions count as a component of the expansion. A couple of us have already double-checked that.
Indeed, the instructions would count as one component, be they a card or a booklet.
...and feel free to send both ideas in. I see no reason why you should stem the creative process!
Uh-oh... are you opening up to multiple submissions from any one creator? Not that I would necessarily have something more to offer.
Why not? Might as well keep those creative juices flowing...
Do we have an end date for the competition yet...? We still haven't found the time to test-play our creation yet but friday seems like the first really positive yet. Hopefully it's not to late to send it in after that. Otherwise I guess I'll just have to send it in un-tested.
The closing date will likely be the end of March or similar, but I have yet to make a final decision. I have been rather busy with a house move and will be for a little while longer. Updates soon...
I do not believe it !!!
They only went and used my idea for the next expansion set. Oh flippity flip fliping 'eck.
Serves me right for being tardy...

Well, put it out there just the same. It won't hurt anything to do so.
Actually I had already taken delivery of an entry using the name Blood Moon for a title! Obviously I couldn't say anything at the time, but it just shows how much "parallel development" takes place.

Oh yes, and just to confirm if you haven't already seen. The competition will close at some point on March 31st, so if you are deliberating - get on with it!
At some point before the weekend I will be uploading a "not quite finished" update for Strange Eons which will include Dragons cards and the like, just in case you need them. They won't be 100% how I want them, but you can certainly use them in the mean time.
...and here it is -

Have a look at the Talisman add-on which includes Dragon cards and a couple of other changes. It is not as polished as I would like, but that will come later (well, actually it might end up being totally rewritten).
If you have trouble with it, just download the older version on the Strange Eons page and install that again. It should work though!
(and don't worry about the large number of token possibilities! I was experimenting!)
I am going to play test mine on Sunday and submit that night. I hope people like it. It's a difficult thing to only employ 13 cards but I think my idea will turn out nice. Excited to try it
Oh nooooeszzzzz... I sent in my entry for the L13 competition, and what does my eye see today? New Talisman expansion, with a new follower: the Black Cat... Darnit FFG, now I've got to go back to the drawingboard for changing stuff for the micro-expansion. Stop stealing my ideas ![]()

I do not think that is an issue. As Jon is judging the entries by their ideas I think it showing up in an official expansion rather more shows the idea was good and not the opposite. Just my thoughts though. ![]()
Indeed, and I just confirmed as much via email ![]()

Indeed it is a heartwarming idea.
Still, I re-editioned my entry and sent it back where it belongs: Jon's inbox, together with the rest of the competing entries. ![]()
My sis is coming over to play test my idea over dinner tonight. It is 95% written (I have to cross check somethings against other cards to maintain continuity) and it ready to play essentially. I think it will be a contender for sure. One question, if it does win, are there any plans to turn it into a downloadable expansion on Talismanisland.com? I'd love to make it into one but I lack the skills and know-how on how to make really nice expansions like Azoics and Jon New (to name a couple).
<blush>
I am sure we can arrange to have a winning entry made into a downloadable expansion if it is not already...
Well I know some folks have had some of their ideas a little bent out of place with the new expansion announcement but I think I got most of you beat.
Not only was my entry name the same (I sent it in over a month ago) but the concept was very similar - Day and night cycles - Lycanthropy the works.
I'm not sure if other folks entries will be posted but I guess it might be interesting for some to see my idea before the expansion comes out.
Here is the pdf I made.

Wow, that's uncanny! Good job!
Talisman at its core is a very simple game built upon all of the cliches and stereotypes of Fantasy. That's actually part of its whimsical appeal. There's bound to be some echoes, and repeated ones, for the game sets all of our mindsets, fans and developers alike.
The day'n'night, as well as other things hinted at for the next official expansion, can also be found throughout the gaming industry. Game companies borrow notions form other games (and elsewhere), just like we do when creating a homemade addition. Don't let it bother you... or stop you.
