What's wrong with 6?

By BARF, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Hey all,

Looking for an expert/experienced opinion on this...

All of the stuff I have read says that A Game of Thrones: LCG is a game for 2-4 players. Does 6 not work? I know players can have the same type of houses (example 2 Baratheons and 2 Starks duke it out) but I am confused as to why I haven't seen support of a 6 person game? Especially when there are 6 different houses to play.

I would imagine it takes longer to complete but other than that is there anything that doesn't work about have more than 4 people in a game?

Thanks.

Yeah pretty much it just bogs the game down with more than four players. Its harder to keep track of everything on the field, especially if you have to get up to see someone else's cards. It really does slow the game down too. Its just too clunky for my liking. Now that's not to say that people don't play with six players at a time, it's just not very often.

Core game comes with only four decks and four houses. Later expansions added 2 more houses plus the neutral house card. I sometimes play melee with 5 or 6 players. Things get jumbled sometimes but we usually just rewind things a bit and let the first player things play out and so forth.

The reason is solely because the Core Set only comes with four decks. You can play with six just fine, after all there are six title cards. Each player adds an additional level of complexity to the game, one of the things many joust players strongly dislike about melee (they'll dress it up with other words, but it all boils down to too many things going on for them manage and manipulate).

Until everyone has some level of experience with the game I generally suggest not playing with more than four players.

As Penfold says 6 players is going to make for a lot of complexity - realistically, you'll need 6 experienced players, prepared for a long game, all with decks built for melee - getting the wrong position in the turn order can seriously screw you over in a 6 player game, just as that one hole in your armoury can cause havoc if five people decide to jump on it.

Think 90% of the time in this situation, I'd rather play 2 games of 3 (or 3 jousts, a 4 and a joust etc.)

Thanks all! Appreciate it.

6 does, indeed, seem like a lot to keep track of.

~Really Penfold? Really? You want to start that up again? sorpresa.gif Just for the record, complexity isn't the reason most of us non-melee people don't play/like it... lengua.gif

Not in this thread, no I don't but I stand by my statement. Melee players are willing to embrace the chaos, revel in the mayhem.

I do certainly make a distinction between those who dislike melee competitively and those who just dislike melee. But if you want to discuss it we can do so in another thread.
