Getting off the reef

By creepwood2, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

First off, I've tried to search the forum. But not that we'll with a smartphone.

I had my first game with the innsmouth expansion, I ended up in the dark reef after returning through a gate. After closing the gate I couldnt find a way off this location. I read somewhere that another player can use falcon location. I find this absurd. Is there really no decent way off that rock?

Innsmouth is not friendly. You might get lucky with an encounter that sends you back to shore, or you could wind up unconscious or insane, thus carted back to Arkham.

Unless you commit a second investigator to charter you back, expect it to be a one-way trip.

Well, at least you're better off at Devil Reef than Y'ha-nthlei. Also, perhaps you are not understanding the nature of the location. It's a reef. There's nobody out there, no docks, no boats, nothing but Deep Ones and Fishmen performing dark rituals to summon Father Dagon and Mother Hydra. In real life, if you were stuck out in the middle of the ocean, stranded on an island, how would you imagine you'd get back? You can't swim. You could search for a tunnel that leads under the sea back to the mainland, or find a mystical gate that leads there, but your best chances would be for another ship to happen by and carry you back to safety. However, in the game, you can actually arrange for such a pickup.

A one way trip in a deadly ship but you'll be found with your bones all ripped. Deep Ones Deep Ones, get your supper!

I understand it, that you're suppose to be screwed if you end up there, although the "logical explaination" doesn't really float the boat (pun intended). In that case the deputys patrol wagon wouldn't be able to go there and come back. I'll be more careful the next time. I only played innsmouth one time and can't understand how you'll be able to steer the deep ones away from the gates there. I'll figure it out, arkham horror without expansions are too easy now.
