Centaur - My First Attempt at Character Creation

By Rophan, in Talisman Home Brews

This Centaur was my first attempt at character creation, and I was wondering what other, more experienced players thought of it. I chose the powers based on a combination of centaur portrayals from Harry Potter and the Narnia movies (My daughter is a big fan of these, and it was her idea to make a centaur character.) In both these movies Centaurs seem to be interested in astrology so I modified the Prophetess's card drawing power to give him a little bit of foresight. The movement, evading and combat powers were based on the riding horse card and the idea that a large creature would pack an added punch in combat either from charging or from rearing up on a target.

We've played with it once, and it seems to have played well - it won in fact, but not by a long shot.

Pretty cool. It's always nice to mix things up a bit. Perhaps adding a bit of flavour to the text as to why he can add strength in battle or evade etc might help finish him off nicely.

Thanks for the advice, here's the updated version. I've also changed the start space to the Sentinel because it resembles a Plains space on the board.

Mmm, i like the first card better. The text looks more original. The same as FFG do with their cards.

The character is pretty balanced.

But i think that he will lose his fate fast, without a replenishing ability.

But on the other side, he can buy fate at the graveyard, or change to evil to gain fate for free there.

Thanks for the comments! We haven't found the Fate issue to be too debilitating, most of the time it is used only to avoid the very worst cards. He has won the most games so far - he's the current favorite with my kids, so he tends to get played a lot, however. His ability to roll two dice has been a lot of fun, in the last game he was able to cross the sentinel's bridge, and kick down the Portal of Power all in one move.

The horse ability can be very handy.

I have been beaten by my opponent more than once, when he has use a horse though the dungeon.

Yeah, i think you must keep him as he is.

Gold is easy to get in the highland, so he can always visit the graveyard to make sure he has some fate, and then you can avoid the worst cards.

He is still 5-3 with a weapon in battle, so he is a nice character to play with.
