Basic Skills/Trained Skills

By Khalkus, in Rogue Trader Rules Questions

So if any player can attempt a basic skill at half the governing characteristic, why does the character sheet have a check mark for "basic" on each skill? Do the players have to just checkmark which ones happen to be basic, or am I misunderstanding some rule?

That is correct, you tick which skills are Basic for your character. Some homeworlds allow you to treat Advanced Skills as untrained Basic Skills.

Two Reasons:

1) Because some Advanced Skills can become Basic at character generation due to some Origin path options.

2) Because the RT Character Sheet is probably the worst of the 40K line, since it doesn't have pre-marked which Skills are Basic by default. You have to do that manually, which is annoying.

Ok thanks, I was just wondering "Is this character sheet that counter-intuitive or did I read a rule wrong somewhere?". I guess it kind of makes sense with the advanced skill as basic skill thing. Thanks again.
