I've read over the boards and am still wondering something:
Will the conversion kit have everything we'd need to play 2ed?
i.e. will it have the new rule book, adventure book, new cards, new dice ect.?

As far as I have read, no. All the kit has is the 2nd edition cards for the heroes and monsters from 1st edition. You have to buy the core 2nd edition box to use the conversion kit.

Correct. The conversion kit converts (some) 1e components into 2e components, nothing more. It's not a replacement for the base box if you already own 1e, it just lets you bring some of the more important pieces over so your 1e boxes aren't a total loss. (Which is still more than most gaming products that move from one edition to the next can say for themselves.)
Has anyone heard how this will affect the campaign module from the 1st edition?

Nothing official.
The only thing the conversion kit converts is "figures." There's a slim chance that the LTs might get counted as "figures" since those metal minis were released, but that's not by any means guaranteed.
Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if campaign play in 2e was similar in some notable respects to the AC expansions from 1e. However, the conversion kit would have nothing to do with that as I'm sure all campaign rules for 2e will be in the base box.
Phew. I wish FFG would release some info soon and make it totally obvious to everybody what the conversion kit does. I visit this forum and BGG Descent 2 forum daily and it feels there's some confused 1st edition owner wondering are all his old bits trash or not.
From the product description:
http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite_sec.asp?eidm=176&esem=2
The Descent: Journeys in the Dark Second Edition Conversion Kit includes everything you need to transfer your first edition heroes and monsters to second edition.
In my opinion it is clear enough, people like to complicate things...
I'm not sure I understand. If 1e Descent + 2e Conversion Kit doesn't come pretty close to equalling 2e Descent, what's the point of the product. You said it updates the components, but if I absolutely need to buy the 2e Descent in order to play 2e Descent, and 2e Descent has all of its own components already the conversion kit serves no purpose.
It doesn't have to be identical to owning a 2e set, but I would expect the conversion kit to let me play 2e adventures by 2e rules, with 1e components.

None of the heroes or monsters in the 2e base box will be repeats of those in 1e. The conversion kit will provide you with 2e stat cards for all the 1e heroes and monsters. Nothing more.
1e Descent + 2e Conversion Kit would equal 2e stats for all your figures without the 2e rule set or quests. Of course, the rules will be posted online if FFG stays true to form, but the quests probably won't. So you COULD, in theory, play the old 1e quests using 2e rules, depending on how well they mesh (you'd need to find makeshift defense dice, for example.)
Descent 2e + 2e Conversion kit + 1e heroes and monsters would equal a much larger starting pool of figures to play 2e with.
Wow, didn't realize that. That's too bad, I really expected something different from the conversion kit.
I'm perfectly fine with the conversion kit as is. It allows you to take all the heroes and monsters from 1st edition and use them in 2nd edition. What would have really sucked was if 2nd Edition came with the same monsters and heroes as 1st Edition.
As it stands, the 2nd Edition game comes with new heroes and monsters. The conversion let's you take all your old favorites and also use them in the game. Otherwise, they would all be obsolete and useless for 2nd edition.
That's an excellent point. My Only fear is that the Seas of Blood and Road to Legend expansion will be made useless. The other expansions we little more than additional monsters and heroes, so the conversion kit will work fine with them. But the Seas of Blood and Road to Legend expansions add campaign level game play. It seems to me that the only way for them not to be useless is 1) not have campaign play in the 2e base game or 2) have a conversion for the two campaign expansions to fit the new 2e rules. But I hope to be wrong.

From the Descent 2nd edition preview:
"As you gain more experience throughout the included campaign..."
and:
"Second Edition offers an out-of-the-box campaign story line that scales brilliantly to accommodate a variable number of players. The story even adapts to your successes and failures!"
So yes, there is campaign play straight out the 2nd edition box. Time will tell if it is closer to the Vanilla box failure or the awesomeness of Road to Legend. Nothing in the released material implicates that there is any plan to convert RtL or SoB to the 2nd edition, although there will be fan homebrews for sure.

I'm with you on this.
I am actually stoked that the huge amount of character options I enjoy from my 1e will be ported to 2e. I plan on buying both the 2e game and the copnversion kit.
Small price to pay for a game that has brought me an incredible amount of fun, table time and laughs/frustrations with good friends!
Well, I think this is a fine strategy to piggyback Descent's fans loyalty to get this Descent 2e conversion kit and take adventage of way and get more money.
I'm quite sure if veteran players of the 1e point out 2e has good rules, well explained, developed and so on, they will pay the conversion kit with eyes closed. But in my opinion is not fair for players to pay 30 $ for just...cards. I wonder if this kit contains also the promo miniatures related with the promo characters. In my case I've all the "official" miniatures but not the promo ones... so besides the 30 I'll have to pull part of the kit so... to sum up:
- 30 $ for just character's cards
- 80 $ Core set of 2e
So an amount of 110$.... correct me if I'm wrong but I think this kit, due to it usefulness should cost 15$ or maybe less.
Quite dissapoint...
Regards
The convertion kit is comprised of cards (for all monsters) and sheets (for all characters), only that.
It is targeted on first edition owners, so that you can use those miniatures in your games.
I dont see it as unfair, if you sum up all monsters and characters from all expansions, it is quite a lot...
I seriously don't get all the confusion and disappointment. 99% of all "Next Edition" games don't offer anything at all to reuse stuff from the old edition. NOTHING!! They make you buy all new stuff and even re-buy updated old stuff, paying full price all over again. I for one am ecstatic about the opportunity to pay only $30 to reuse ALL my old characters and ALL the old monsters in this new edition. Would it be better if it were free? Sure! Is it unrealistic that it's not? Not at all. I'll happily purchase the main box too to get all NEW monsters and NEW characters as well, and not be paying $80 for updated versions of old stuff, which by the way to totally within their rights to do as nearly every other company does exactly that. If for some reason you don't want to pay $30 to use old stuff with the new edition, whether it's too expensive or you only have a few characters or monsters or whatever, then don't buy it. Just buy the main box and play 2e like most other new edition games and forget you ever owned the old edition like most other companies expect you to do.
So, thank you FFG. Thank you for giving me all new stuff in the main box and not reprints of old stuff. And thank you again for giving me a way to use stuff from an old edition. You didn't have to do anything that, and i'm thankful that you did.

I'm with kartigan, too. This is a huge WIN for FFG...
I, for one, cannot be more excited about the 2nd ed. release...and this conversion kit!
My sole complaint is how long it's taking...if not for release than for more information!!!!!
I'm all for the release of the conversion kit, but I never purchased 1st edition. I only played. Does anyone know if Fantasy Flight plans to release figure sets from 1st edition?

Nothing has been announced as yet, but if it would make money for them, then I'm sure they are considering it.
GTM had an ad on the back a couple months ago, and there was a pic of what the conversion kit will have:
Basically, you get Hero sheets and Monster cards. You might also get a small rulebook on how to "integrate" the monsters into the game, but that's pretty much it.

It's also been confirmed that there will be cards for three familiars, so it's possible there might be a few other cards as well (and possibly even some tokens).

Bear in mind that you can buy the conversion kit and play with it using proxies or figures from other games. Sure the actual figures would be ideal , but even non-1E owners can use the Conversion Kit if they want a bunch more heroes and monsters and don't mind having figs or proxies that don't match perfectly.

I don't have all the promo figures from 1ed, but will buy this conversion kit so will have the cards for them. Be nice if I could buy the figures from somewhere...
