Dress Uniforms?

By flyboy0106, in Deathwatch

I realize that the SM's armor is the standard uniform where they diplay all there decorations and such. But I still like the idea of a cloth dress uniform for SM's that they would wear for cerimonies and such. just a thought.

Given that their armor is the panoply of the chosen of the God-Emperor, they just shine it up for events, like in Brothers of the Snake, where they are at a party for a coronation (and also other stuff but spoilers, ya know). They have no idea what to do at parties, so they stand in the center of the ballroom back to back, talking to each other through their vox and being bored. It's a hilarious scene. "What does 'mingle' mean?"

Hey, that's not true. The Space Wolves really know how to party.

If you go really old school, the (original) Rogue Trader book had a pic of Dark Angels wearing a showy uniform:-

well there ya go!! I just think it would be cool to incoorperate a dress uniform in deathwatch and have like a deathwatch badge or pin much like the Navy Seals trident.

Oh aye, there could be many ways for a Marine to represent their time in the Deathwatch, ranging from icons on their powered armour to having little =][= badges implanted in their forehead in place of standard Astartes long service studs. Or they could have more or less elaborate Deathwatch tatoos. Or a Deathwatch symbol branded in to their flesh with a white hot iron possibly.

But always remember a Marine in dress uniform is going to look like The Hulk in a suit. :0)

In my time in the Navy I have had the honor of serving with SEALS and yes they look a lot like the hulk in a suit when they have their dress uniforms on. LOL

Most posts should be read with a "Space Wolves May Vary" disclaimer on the end. ;)

Just from my general impression of most fluff, I think there's two notions of "dress uniform" that need to be understood. One is for public occasions, the other private Astartes occasions. For public occasions such as parades and diplomatic events, it's polished armor with ostentatious honorifics (parades are the occasion where back banners might actually make sense). Marines need to keep up their image as the Angels of Death after all. For private chapter affairs, it seems to vary by chapter and occasion in fluff (and author). I think such "uniforms" probably vary with chapter traditions. The Ultramarines seem to prefer greco-roman tunics, the Dark Angels their robes, Space Wolves in furs, etc. However, it depends on ceremony. Even a private bestowing of honors seems to require armor for most of the authors.

Of course, fluff is fluff and you take from it what you will.

I concur on this point. For most parades and public events/ official events, they would don their power armour. I believe for non official duties there should be another uniform (much like in the forces).
