A Couple of Quick Questions About Attachments

By Overhed, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

I've found that the rules are kind of vague about attachment mechanics, so I've got a couple of questions:

1. When I put an attachment in play, am I free to attach it to any character that allows attachments? Or do I have to wait until a "Player Action" window?

2. When a character with an attachment is killed, am I free to re-assign that attachment to another character, or does the attachment go into the dead pile as well?

3. I've noticed there are some attachments with negative effects (like a Targaryen (sp?) attachment that gives -2 STR to its target), I guess this implies that I can assign attachments to any character in play, not just characters I control?

Thanks in advance! This game is a ton of fun, really enjoying it thus far.

Welcome to the game!

1) This question is a bit convoluted. Can you specify the situation you're thinking about?
But basically, it's like this: If an attachment enters play, either because it is played from hand in the Marshalling phase or because it is put into play via a card effect, it is immediately attached to another card in play (characters, mostly; sometimes also locations, other attachments or even House cards). An attachment can never ever be in play without being attached to another card. If an attachment ever finds itself unattached to another card, it s immediately discarded. Does that answer the question?

2) Neither. happy.gif
You cannot reassign the attachment, unless the text on the card tells you you can (examples include Winter Cache and Longclaw).* In all other cases, attachments on cards that leave play go to the discard pile (not the dead pile)

3) That's correct. Unless differently noted on the card, you can attach attachments to your opponent's cards as well as your own.

*Note that you can't move Poisoned Wine in this situation due to timing issues; basically, if Poisoned Wine is attached to a character that gets killed, it will get discarded before you get a chance to trigger its effect. Details of the timing structure of the game can be found in the FAQ document, which is available from the Support section of this site.

Thanks a lot, that clears things up.
