How brutal is BRUTAL CHARGE?

By Hpred, in Black Crusade Rules Questions

I was going over my character and found that I have earned the Mark of Khorne. Going over it I learned that I gain the Brutal Charge trait. I then went over Brutal Charge to see what I get when I came to a sudden stop. The mark just states Brutal Charge, but when I got to the trait it stated that it was one of the (X) traits where it is based off of something, what that is I have no clue so I am asking. My understanding is levels, but how do you figure out the level of the Brutal Charge?

Brutal Charge(X): Add (X) damage to your attacks on the charge.

Fun, ain't it? Traits with a (X) not having a rating is a pretty common error in BC. Up to your Gm, really. Personally, however, I'd probably replace it with the Juggernaut special ability Furious Impact, as detailed among the Khorne special abilities under Rampage. That or another more interesting Charge booster that's hard to get and more fun to have than an extra +whatever on your damage.

If I really had to give it a rating, I'd probably guess it's +2, since that's the general level around which marks tend to give you stuff. However, it strikes as a little low, maybe.

Personally I see it leveling off of my infamy score, sense that can flucuate. I have read Furious Impact under the Juggernaut and just don't see that as something that my character would do. Thou having that as an upgrade that my Daemon Weapon could get along the way would be interesting.

In previous 40k systems it added a flat +3 damage on Charge attacks. I'd recommend using this value until the errata appears.

Thank you for the information Morangias. Hopefully we will be seeing the errata here in the next month or two.

You're welcome. BC is a great game, but it needs a solid errata treatment badly.

I would use Str Bonus, or perhaps half Str bonus since that particular stat can get really really high really fast if you are a space marine.

Well, we have an answer now. Strait from the Errata/FAQ; Mark of Khorne (page 82): Under the Benefits subsection, replace the first sentence with “The character gains the Resistance (Psychic Powers) Talent, the Brutal Charge Trait (4), and Unnatural Strength (+2) if he does not already have them.”

Which of course immediately begs the question on how Unnatural Strength ( + 2) stacks with already existing US. The + implies it's added, but the "if he does not already have them" speaks against it.

I think they intend that humans gain US(2), Marines don't get any because they already have US.. but it's kind of vague.

I would think that Khorne would want to make his troops stronger. Also, Space Marines have US(4), not US(2). This would make me think that it would combo to US(6) for a Chaos Marine dedicated to Khorne. I think it was mint more that it cannot be combo with Synthetic Muscles witch gives US(2).

and it says that on no other mark, so I just ignore it.

The "if he does not already have them"-part mosty refers to othe two former ones being brutal charge trait and resistance psychic powers. All Unnatural Char stacks because its "+x".

Sweet, thanks for the clarification. Good thing I did not buy that Nurgle trait. Now I get it without raising my Nurgle alignment.
