SoB, worth it?

By Vye King, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hi all.

I was recently given ToI for my birthday and now have all Descent expansions except Sea of Blood. I have heard some negative things about it and was wondering, is it worth buying SoB, or should I put the money towards 2nd Ed? The only shop that has Sob in stock is charging $120 (Australian dollars) for SoB and the board. Original Descent was about $150.

Is SoB worth paying that much for?

In my personal opinion, probably not.

Keep in mind that we know next to nothing about 2e right now, but I strongly suspect the campaign mode in 2e will play along similar lines to the AC game in 1e, and it will probably benefit from some significant revision to correct imbalances (revisions made all the better by the fact that it is no longer trying to fit together with a core mechanic established for an entirely different purpose.)

If you were asking whether it was worth paying a reasonable amount for SoB (roughly 2/3rds of the core box price sounds about average to me) as opposed to paying an arm and a leg for RtL, I would say go with SoB, but assuming you can wait for 2e I think it would be better to do that than try to deal with the headaches SoB causes without house rule modification.
