Campaign Idea, need plots

By Gribble_the_Munchkin, in Dark Heresy Gamemasters

I've got an idea for a campaign and could do with some input.

The basic premise is that the PCs start at rank 4. They've been reliable acolytes for a while now doing various acolyte-y things (and i might ask them to write me a short list of their notable exploits as background). However, their inquisitor has recently died (warp accident). How sad. An trio of other inquisitors have asked the dead inquisitors interrogator to tidy up his affairs, gather his assets and generally wrap things up.

This interrogator has gone through the dead guys files and merged all his acolytes into several cells. The PCs are one such cell. He is now going to use them to help him tidy up the dead inqusiitors affairs and after that as a mercenary/black ops group to achieve things that need to be done "off the books".

Early missions will focus on silencing former acolytes and agents who know too much and are judged (by the interrogator) as untrustworthy. Later he will start using them to achieve inquisition missions, particularly where they can't go in wavering a writ of authority.

Eventually, he'll see the profit motive and start renting them out to all and sundry including rogue traders, criminals, other branches of the adeptus, etc.

The PCs will often be in the dark about the aims and orientations of the jobs principal. They will receive dossiers of information about their job, a slush fund type budget and told to get on with it. If they are captured they have suicide catechisms that can be used to self terminate.

First mission will be killing a trio of people on Prol VIII, former acolytes/spies/etc.

Second mission will be recovery of some of the dead inquisitors effects and murder of those investigating them (on a train between hive cities, yay for train heists!)

But i'd love some more ideas of missions for them to do.

Ideally i'm after quite simple missions, not long stories or continuing sagas. And they are being used mostly as an off-the-books black ops team, a bit more militant and a bit less investigate-y than most DH teams. These are the guys you send in to get stuff done, not the guys you send in to figure out what needs to be done. Earlier missions will be tailored to cleaning up an inquisitors business, then general inqusiitorial tasks and finally all kinds of stuff.

Any ideas?

[The Vault]

The Interrogator stumbled across some direct communication from one Tech-Priest Mosby to the (swoon) Inquisitor himself. From the communication
the Interrogator has learned that said Tech-Priest Mosby was tasked by the (swoon) Inquisitor to mantaine and controll access to something referred to
"the Vault". As far as the communication goes, "the Vault" was something where Acolythes brought things (of potentially heretical or at least restricted nature) to... or took things from for one mission or another.

The pc will need to travel to a distant world and find Tech-Priest Mosby (perhaps Sinophia?). Of course, the Tech-Priest will not grant them access. The Inquistor did not ordered them and any exclaims of "he is dead!" will be met with cold scorn about "such simple lies". In fact, Mosby suffers from a little mind-rust himself.

Anyway, all of this is merely the opening to a little dungeon crawl where the pc can devle into "the Vault" where a number of traps and fake rooms have been set up to protect... whatever you want to insert here. Equipment; prisoners, unholy tomes, whatever.

[Retirement plan]

The swoon Inquistor seem to have had a "special case acolythe": a Mortiurge on Solomon. The Interrogator wants this man to be removed. While carring out a hit against a veteran hitman might be problematic enough, he lives in a certain quarter/section/habblock on Solomon which was is inhabitat only by Arbitrators and those working for the directly for the Arbites Precint. The security is accordingly high and seems suicidal to attempt a hit inside the Precint Hab. But how to get him out? No friends, no family. Or is their something the pc have overlooked?

Nice ideas. I particularly like the second one. Assassination of a target so well protected that they cannot just go in and get them but must draw them out to them. Turns the usual hitjob scenario on its head.

Thanks! happy.gif

If you want to go "classy" (corny) about the "Retirement plan", this old grizzeled wolf of an Arbitrator might have fancy with bloody-young prostitute. She is a classi call-girl (you place the call, the comes to you). While she does not have ward accessors for the area and cannot smuggle the pc in... they can kidnap her and set up a trap for the Mortiurge (which you should NOT, by any means, name "Marv").

While the Mortiurge (lets call him Darris ) is a loner by choice, he is not a foul. And he knows the underworld good enough. So, when push comes to shove he will not go in solo but have hired a team of professionals and will try to sneak in while the dance starts. In addition he will have filled out "Emergency File 089 - Immediate Threat of Life to an Adeptus Member" to get inprompto access to the armoury. He knows that he might not be able to explain/get away with that, but since he is willing to risk his life for the young prostitue (lets call her Leyla ) it does not matter to much to him right now.

You do have the "Radicals Handbook" and the "Book of Judgement", do you? Fine, so go on and make use of the single most overpowered shotgun in the recent history of this game AND load it with Executioner Shells. Do not forget to give Darris some "Stummers" (Core rules, the things that allow you to be more sneaky) . He would not be a Mortiurge on a hit if he would not use any of them.

The only worry that you will have: your PC will ask YOU what potential hideouts/trap points are available, so have three to five maps of different building typs ready. AND a table of "week points" they could have seen IF they just have made a better Search test...
