First adventure after Premades.

By Hells Heroes, in Dark Heresy

After we (start and) finish the premade adventures, I decided to try making one of my own. This is the idea I got for it.

The acolytes are sent to _____ too retrieve documents when two imperial guard ships appear over the planet.

They were sent as reinforcements to back up the PDF defending the world from _____. Due to the odd nature of the warp they have appeared a few days before the invasion even began!

Somehow, maybe the higher ups in the Imperial Guard tell them what the invasion leader is looking for. It is up to the acolytes to find said thing, as the rest of the world prepares for the attack.

This would probably be a time sensitive mission spanning only a few days. Mainly I'd see the players fighting gangers, private military guards from nobility maybe, and some cultist if the invasion or the object they are to retrieve involves the ruinious powers.

If things go bad, and it takes to long, I'd like the last part of the adventure (perhaps this happens anyways) to involve a race through the city as the invasion begins to get the Object to safety. Mainly they'd fight basic level enemy soldier types or maybe some larger enemies but with help from the PDF/Imp. Guard.

Any thoughts on my idea?

The setting seems pretty fine. And also I like the concept of race-against-time, but that's just my taste.

As for the scenario idea, it would be interesting to read first how (non)-linear the adventure would be; how PCs' action can affect the chain of events; and ultimately, the ending variations.

Second, it would be interesting to learn how deep you work on NPCs style and the balance between combat/investigation/socialising.

Perhaps the object they seek, or the people that hold it are the ones responsible for the planets attack.

Maybe instead of searching for an object they must find and stop the ones who disable the planets defenses, or open the warp storm through investigation?

It could lead up to the planetary govener who's spent many years setting up the plot to hand over the world to Chaos or an alien force.

Investigation and combat I can see in this...just socialization may be a bit hard to fit seeing as it's a race against time. I guess one of the challenges in it could be an undercover operation at a ball to gain entry/steal/get information. Of course...it would be suspisious to find out there's a ball going on whilst the world prepares for war.

Just a few questions.

1) What if the PCs don't disable the planet's defenses?

2)Can they bribe/kill/kidnap/else the governor and face different consequences which lead to a *different* story arc?

etc...

I would also recommend to elaborate on different paths which the characters can take. A good scenario to me is the one that I can change through my actions, not the one that just takes me through a linear chain of pre-set encounters.

Socialising or fighting, after all, it's just a matter of personal preference.

I've decided to turn my game into a sort of multiple choice Tree formation kind of adventure.

At the beginning the players get a choice of one of three missions, the other two will be handled by the overstretched PDF or Arbites. For every mission, I set up for one of three possibilities; success, failure, and something else.

Depending on how they succeed/fail will change the next mission areas. Like if they succeed completely the next mission will be ordinary and the plot will act as such.

Failing on key part but still succeeding will have minor to big alterations in the next mission (and or later ones) but it will be relatively the same.

The same in a reverse way will be done for Failing a mission.

I'm trying what they did for Mass Effect out. It will most likely take a long time to complete, but it'll alow the PCs to play it multiple times with different results. Which will give me enough time to plan a new adventure :)
