On the Servo-Arm.

By Drakness, in Black Crusade

I have a newly created Heretek with the servo-arm cybernetic.

Looking at the text it's fairly unclear on a number of points and I'm wondering what's intended with the rules. To begin with, the text says that the servo-arm has a strength value of 75+7 of unnatural strength and that the user always uses this in place of his own strength, no matter what strength he has before or that's dependant on other factors. Is this a benefit of the rest of the armor that's part of the arm? I understand that the arm it gives can be extended but I figured that it replaced one of the ones you already had (they're attached to your shoulders and I can't see myself suddenly having two arms sprouting from one shoulder, and you need to control it somehow). As it says servo-arm I figured that the strength would only be with that one arm.

Anyway, if it is true that it's only arm that's replaced what's the effect of the arm on other things then such as carrying capacity, or even the intimidate skill, does it apply to both?

I believe it's a mechanical appendage attached to your Cyber-Mantle and it has it's own str for purposes of lifting and hitting so it gives you the ability to lift some really heavy things with that arm.

It's shoulder or back mounted. What it means is that it mounts either on top of your shoulder via your cyber mantle, or it mounts on your back and comes over your shoulder. It does not replace any of your original appendages. It allows you to do many fun things. Hang from ceilings and fire weaponry, lift a space marine and throw him, even if he's in Termie armor, and grapple your enemies much easier.

But you're supposed to use it for everything else then? It says that the characters always uses the servo-arm's strength.

That's meant to say that whenever the character uses the servo-arm, the arm's strength and only the arm's strength is used. Your character's strength doesn't add to it.

The main thing I want to do now is to use it as part of my lifting capacity, can I do that?

I'd say you replace your Strength Bonus for that of the Servo Arm for the purpose of determining how much you can lift.

Does that include carrying?

As in, the amount of stuff you can casually keep on yourself? RAW, no idea. Trying to make sense of the rules, it would only make sense if you kept gripping the extra stuff with your servo-arms, which would look rather silly - and you'd have to drop it each time you wanted to use those for something more immediate.

Best not think about it too much.

The servo arm is a tool for heavy lifting and repair. It is not a bag of holding.
