How many players?

By Mestre dos Magos, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Hi everyone.

I've been playing RPG since the nineties, and recently Warhammer Fantasy caught my attention.

One thing bothers me though, is the number of players. I read that you can play 1 GM + 3 PCs... is it possible to have more PCs?

I am used to having a band of 4 or 5 PCs. Does the game have enough components (cards) and does it scale for more, or is it hard locked at 3 PCs?

You can absolutely play with as many players as you want. The reason that they originally said that because there were only basic action cards for 3 players (and this has confused new people ever since). Nowadays people just use summary sheets unless they just like all kinds of clutter on the table (imo ;). Here's the link to the Support page for wfrp 3 basic action summary: fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_content/wfrp/support/players-guide/wfrp-basic-action-reference.pdf

Otherwise, there's nothing holding you back from playing with as many people as you want.

My group of 5 has been playing regularly without a hitch.

You may want to ask your players to pitch in to buy an extra dice set each. That will speed the game along so people can prep before it's their turn.

Oh thank you so much for your reply.

That really makes me happy.

Actually I consider myself lucky, I found this guy selling a complete collection (only missing like 3 of the latest products) for almost half of what I would pay, buying everything separatelly, he even has extra dice :)

So now I am very excited to start playing.

Thanks again for your quick reply

If you host many players you have two options:

1) Buy the Player's, Master and Creature Guides a set of dice and forget about the rest. These three books will allow you to play the game the "old way" with pen and paper and nothing else. You will have no limitations to host games of as many players as you like.

2) Buy the Core box and scan/print the cards.

I play with a party of 8 PC's plus me, the GM, and I have nonetheless choosen the second option. So far I have bought all the supplements including the guides. The reason I choose the second option is because if you use pen and paper you will be inevitably missing the flavour of the new and revolutionary game mechanics presented by this 3rd edition of the game. But yes, we scan every card on the game and print them as we need them.

As you get a larger player base, I'd recommend to your players to purchase the Players Guide at least on PDF. There's nothing like 5 players trying to share cards and a single book to figure out how to build a character. Ah..the good old days ;)

Thanks for the tips guys.

I have already purchased the PDF for players guide, waiting for the game now! (oh it is going to be a looong week!)

I am pretty excited, I dont remember being this excited about the prospect of starting a new RPG system for a long time!
