Anti discard in Block 3

By frehocc, in UFS General Discussion

Hi people,

what are the anti discard tech in block 3 apart from big cyclone?

I'm mostly looking at TWOP and Glare as well as several other minor discards, but TWOP is the biggest offender

Thanks

Umm not a lot really.

There's Chester's Backing, No Memories, Evil Doer Destroyer to name a few, but those just stop the enhance.

As for things such as Dodge Step and Chinese Sword Style, I'm fairly certain there's only Big Cyclone.

There's also the brand new Will for the Fight

James is aware of the lack of anti discard in block 3, don't worry.

And as a note, this is one of the MANY reasons why jumping ahead to block 3 ahead of time was a BAD idea. TWoP for example is only so amazing because "block 3" doesn't really have any good anti-discard yet, one of the many things missing from "block 3"...

I'm from SG, we are starting from the newer sets.

Even big cyclone is not available here.

So was looking for punishment for discard like big cyclone in the newer sets that I may have missed

Will for the fight is AMAZING Anti Discard....

It's things like this...

We interviewed steve about this and I believe in episode 2 or 3 he touches that anti discard is coming set 12 when we have rotation dont worry . gui%C3%B1o.gif

Will for the fight is one of the best foundations out there right now. also dont forget because its not directly anti discard dosent mean it cant work against discard. Consider the following all strong "anti discard" in addition to direct anti discard and all of it is block 3 legal.

High Tide
Blood Runs True
White Gi
Lord of the Makai
Counter the Assault
Son of a Tycoon
Any character with a draw ability

Your Mind is Known to Me.

(Among other creative solutions)

Antisocial
Lone Wolf

Yeah just also frickin DRAW MORE CARDZ! lol

I've found that Enhance-based draw power seems to be today's anti-discard (well up until some more comes out) as has been stated before with stuff like Son Of A Tycoon and High Tide. However, I wouldn't count out Familial Loyalty either...

Drawing cards, or pulling cards back from discard pile is nullfying discard

I'm looking for tech to PUNISH discard

that's why I was looking for stuff like Big cyclone I may have mised

Aha. True that. Yeah not much punishment for discard right now. Here's a clarification and hint: You shoulda' said that in the original post. :)

I think free will is an awesome anti discard tool since you get anything back .

you could always open up some trade lists on the forums and get some of the cards you need that you missed that way

but as for punishing discard i dont think there are any ways 2 do that in the later sets sadly enough you might just have 2 hold out until set 12

saiko ryu and bitter rivals are awesome discard. o we were talking about anti discard. sadly only big cyclone realy.

Keep in mind that in todays play enviroment "Discard" does not always discard the cards, and therefore creative solutions might be the better ones to actually punish players. For instance some players may strip hands with N-Type Human and The King of Fighters 2006 in which case Big cyclone does squat.

Creative solutions to that is punishing your opponent for giving you momentum. Balrog has a great way to do this (anecdotal, but hey we'll take it anyway).

Have to agree with Proto's direction on this one. Anti-discard is really narrow tech, and it doesn't even begin to touch alternative forms of hand destruction like Fio. Defend yourself with your staging area with cards like Amy's Assistance, and you'll open up new options for all sorts of scenarios, and just end up with a better deck in the process.

In other words, "Play the good promos, and don't worry too hard about the set stuff" ?

Heh, if you see it that way, I guess so. It's consistent with my statement, so I'll bite.

Go ahead and put me down for some Tira's Contracts, and Lord of the Makais on the promo side.

If you really want set stuff, Mysterious Stance and Make a Difference.

Set stuff also gorgeous team , free will , and white gi will help you out for now .

Even with the errata, Maternal Instincts is still useful on your own turn. Basic draw power all on it's own is currently the best option. Otherwise, you have to run damage reduction or life gain, which is usable. Cards like Caught in the Clinch are also useful to avoid a 1-shot attack via the discard your hand scenario.
