maesters

By OneShot2, in 4. AGoT Deck Construction

So I've just started and played a lot of one on one with my girlfriend and we are getting each other our houses deluxe expansions for christmas (She a wolf, me a stag). She keeps murdering me with the core set. Keeps getting lucky and rob stark'ing me to death to keep my characters out of play. So we have the 1/3 of the maesters chapter packs and I was wondering if they are viable in my stag deck or if I'd be better off to switch to something else for a while till I get my deluxe expansion and rush her to death. We'll have all the decks for the maesters by next week. Thnks for info in advance

As a general rule, Maesters can fit into pretty much every house and make them better... I'm not exactly sure which of the maesters packs you have (Do you mean you have 1, 2 and 3 or 1/3 of them?)...once I know that, I can know better how to direct you toward fitting them in your deck.

I actually have the first and the last but the rest will are in shipment now. I just like the idea of using robert and stacking some of the chains that I don't need the effect from along with the apprentice collar to give him a strength boost and having some of the other for their canceling of effects. My girl still beat me last night but was a lot closer. She keeps picking the Morghulis plot and wiping my player accumulated power.

One of Bara's best defenses against this is Power of Blood. Most players get a 2nd Core set sooner or later and you may want to look into that...

Yeah I've used it and some dupes but she holds it until her last card or next to last trying to get me to use it first lol. She understands the game better than she lets on. I plan on picking up the 2nd core pack from work tomorrow to get some extra dupes and just make a dupe heavy rush style deck with what I have. Just wasn't sure if maesters could help me tone down her military massacre.

If you prefer to go for a quicker power rush, Maesters is probably not the best way to go- you need to detach your chains before the game is over, so your maesters need to survive and you have to win a variety of challenges. They add more of a control element to a deck, adding easy draw, gold production, attachment removal and location standing to a variety of decks.

Haven't really decided on a favorite house so rush isn't the main goal. Just wondered how maesters have done in decks. Are they a worthwhile exploration or just stick to the more common builds? Or just use martell and lannister for control style?
