Card-specific question about saves.

By Thanos Voidseeker, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hi guys.

My question has to do with Bronn's save ability (pay 2 gold to save and stand character)

So, Bronn is attacking alone and opponent plays Lethal Counterattack. Can Bronn activate his own ability at that point to prevent himself from being killed? I am not sure because it is not a Response but an "Any Phase" ability. So what would it be?

Thanks in advance.

You'd have to do it before your opponent played Lethal Counterattack. Since you've correctly noticed that his ability is an Any Phase one, Lethal Counterattack would resolve completely before you had a chance to play any non-Response actions.

It's also important to remember that Bronn is not a "save" effect. His ability is not a Response, and it does not used the word "save" anywhere in it.

Bronn's effect is a replacement effect were, under certain circumstances, it turns a "kill" effect into a "stand Bronn" effect. In order for that to happen, the replacement effect must be active before any kill effect it is trying to change. Best thing to do in your scenario is to activate his ability before declaring the challenge.

Thanks for the info. Still a newbie you see... gui%C3%B1o.gif

No worries. Bronn is a really advanced mechanic, rules-wise.
