Swarm Special Rules

By Yepesnopes, in WFRP Rules Questions

Hello all!

On page 47 of the creature guide it is stated under "Swarm Special Rules -> Overwhelming" that melee attacks by swarms gain "comet : The target must make a Discipline check against Fear 1"

Since the only way to get a comet is rolling expertise dices, which represent dedicated training or exceptional aptitude with a skill or special proficiency (pg 14 Player Guide), and it is very unlikely that a swarm of rats has WS basic skill trained, I don't see how a Swarm of rats, bats, insects or whatever, can roll this result.

Wouldn't it be better something like

Overwhelming: attacks against a swarm gain "Chaos star: you must make a Discipline check against Fear 1"

But may be I am missing something?

don't have books handy, but the E of A/C/E allows the GM to add yellow dice to the NPCs action - does the swarm have an expertise rating > 0?

If so, thats how they'd get yellow dice into their pool

Hey Pumpkin, thank you for the answer. Well, yes you are right but actually that is a point I wanted to avoid. Indeed, Swarms have 1 expertise dice. Which means that you can use maximum once per encounter one expertise dice to fuel (for example) one melee attack. Thus, in the "best" of the situations when PC's encounter a swarm there is 1/6 of probabilities that the overwhelming effect is triggered, but only once for each encounter since Swarms have only one expertise die. But may be this is how it must be.
