New player : questions

By ASura2, in Tannhauser

Hi all,

I discovered the game when it was released by Take on You back in 2007. I have 2 copies of the french edition (1st and 2nd printing) and now that the rules of the game changed with FFG, I was interested in getting the english version. My questions are :

- are the new rules available in the Tannhauser game starter?

- which single packs belong to the revised edition of the game? Can I use the single packs that were released by Take on You or have they been upgraded for the latest version of the game with FFG (I am mainly talking about Ramirez, Gorgei, Yula and Wolf)

- which extension belong to the latest version? Would the french version of Daedalus be compatible with the english one?

- Is there any complete checklist of everything that has been released for the Tannhauser game, including release dates, language versions and compatibility between both the old and the latest version?

I decided to go back to this fantastic game when I saw the latest Shogunate figures. The Itami and Mizu figures are incredibly cool! I bought them last week and I have to say it is great to see how the Tannhauser background evolves. I also bought a copy of the Field Ops card game by Take on You : is it still part of the FFG Tannhauser background? There are some really cool concepts and I would love to see them made into miniatures (I am a miniature collector before everything) :

- the Frankenstahl Golem

- the Hurricane trooper (they have the same combat knives as Hoax apparently)

- the Eisendivision

- Baron Von Karloff (very cool concept art)

What do you guys think? Would you be interested in more Reich and Union single packs? I definitely would!

In the FFG Revised Edition you have the updated rules for all those singles too.

I'm not really an expert in the different versions of Tannhäuser, but i'll try to answer as good as i can:

The new English base game contains the Revised rule book. There's a sticker on the box that says so. But you can buy the rule book seperate from the game for cheap and use the old game components. I did just that with the old German box and had no problems.

All the character expansions are usable with the new rules because they either contain a booklet using the revised rules or their rules are included in the Revised rules book (There's Novgorod, Yula, Ramirez, Gorgei and Wolf in the book). So you can play any character with the revised rules without problems.

I'm not sure about the French Daedalus pack, but I don't think it's the same as the English version. The English version contains a new map with a hunting lodge on it, I don't think that was in the French version. A lot of the bonus tokens that were included in the French version weren't in the English version. On that I'm sure because I saw pictures of the content of the old pack and was quite sad when the bonus tokens were missing in the pack I bought. By the way, that's the one thing that may cause problems with the Revised rules: Some of the old bonus tokens aren't compatible and can't be used. Otherwise, just get the rule book so you can use everything. And just to be sure: The Revised rules are great!

Thank you very much for the answers! I think I already like the revised rules! In my opinion, this game has a lot of potential and the material is made of very high quality. I would even say it is more than a game since the background is very well developed and Tannhauser enjoys a strong visual identity. Wasn't there a novel to be released soon?

One more question : is it possible to pay and download the revised rules on FFG's website? I can't find the booklet anymore as it is sold out.

Thank you very much!

Yes you can buy the rules as a PDF download for $5 US.

javascript:void(0);/*1322980952279*/ This is where you can get the pdf- if the link works, i still have a hard time with this forum.

I ended up getting the pdf rules on the link you guys provided. Thanks! I'm not excluding the possiblity of getting the latest FFG version of the Tannhauser starter though.
