Plot Traits?

By Thanos Voidseeker, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hi everyone, I am new to the game but totally loved it (being a long time Magic the Gathering player I actually didn't expect me to like it so much...but now I got hooked!)

Me and a few friends started with the new starter and I got Baratheon. Soon after I bought the expansion and I have a question about some of the plots in it.

Some of them have Military Battle, Power Struggle or Intrigue Gambit. Can someone tell me what these things mean? They are printed in bold so in the beginning they looked like traits but I am unsure.

Thanks to all.

They are, in fact, traits. Like any other trait (Dragon, Condition, Winterfell), they mean nothing in and of themselves, they simply allow other cards to interact with that trait. In the case of plots, a commonly played example are the "To be a" event cards (To be a Wolf, To be a Kraken, etc), that require you to have used a plot card with a specific keyword.

For a little more info, see an earlier post today here http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_foros_discusion.asp?efid=18&efcid=4&efidt=584789

Ok here is what actually got me wondering:

The location "The Stormlands" says:

Your revealed plot card gains the Power Struggle trait. (My question: what do I gain of it? Apart cards interacting with it maybe?)

If it has the printed Power Struggle trait, raise your claim value by 1 during POWER challenges. (So this only works if the trait was already printed on the card and not if "The Stormlands" just gave the trait to it correct?)

P.S. The link was quite informative thank you -Istaril

Yup, you're reading stormlands correctly. If you're using it while you have a "Power Struggle" plot (where the text "Power struggle" is on the actual card) revealed, you'd have a very nice additional claim for your power challenge(s), and if you used it while you had a non power-struggle card revealed, you'd be able to use the abilities that require a revealed "Power Struggle" Plot (example; "Renly baratheon" from The Raven's Song has the ability "After you win a power challenge and there is at least 1 Power Struggle plot card revealed, draw a card.", "The Art of Diplomacy" is an attachment that gives attached character +4 strength while you have a power struggle plot revealed).

You're also understanding the term "printed" correctly; there is no way to satisfy a requirement for a "printed" x except for the text to be physically on the card. So if something interacts with a power struggle plot card, it doesn't matter how the card gained that trait (it could be from Stormlands, or any other effect that could give a plot a trait), but if it interacts with "printed power struggle trait"...

No trait has rules inherent to it, just interaction with other cards. Some traits have (to date) no interaction, while others are quite heavily supported (eg Maester, Dragon, Ally, Direwolf, Condition, Knight, Lord, King)
