The thing that gets me, is that I was JUST getting into/discovering Descent when they decided to do the whole 2nd edition "switcharoo". I had just purchased the Core Set and Well of Darkness… now more or less worthless (yeah, I know there's a conversion kit). Now, all the other expansions are as good as unavailable (because there's NO WAY I'm spending the gouged $$$ that retailers are asking for their remaining copies). REALLY frustrating, as this was a game I was excited about getting into and collecting. Plus, I'd already painted over half of the minis.

Don't get me wrong… I'm all about progress, and am excited about 2nd edition (and will fork out the extra $$$ to buy it… WHENEVER it becomes available). But what am I supposed to do in the meantime? I can't get the expansions for the Core Set I already own, and even though there'll be conversions for the minis, the old cards are all now useless… and about that… is anyone else irritated by the tiny cards that FFG is so fond of using in their games now? I HATE those. No good way to store them, and if you try to sleeve them, they're **** near impossible to stack without them sliding all over the place. Good to know that there'll be a ton of the damnable things in 2nd edition. Ugh.

Guess what I'm saying is I wish they'd at LEAST kept the old expansions available until 2nd edition was actually play tested (THOROUGHLY… unlike the MoM/Forbidden Alchemy debacle) and READY for release!

If it isn't broken, WHY did they try to "fix" it???

They were cute when they were mainly found in eurogames that mostly used pictograms with little to no text, but now that FFG has started busting out text-heavy versions of them in thematic games like this, I find them very annoying. Fundamental ways, some might say. As an old timer with this game, D2e is a welcome breath of fresh air. So far the previews seem to have addressed most of the major issues I was worried about, and it all looks cherry to me.

Yeah… I get that… STILL wish the old expansions were still available… but you know the old saying, "Wish in one hand…"

I too, am an "old school/veteran" gamer. Cut my teeth back in '81 with the boxed editions of D&D… and I STILL think that old rule set was the best. But… on the other hand… some of the improvements in later editions made it easier to customize… but much of it took away that original flavor. All those "empty holes" left so much room for the DM to "fill in the blanks". I personally LIKE the idea of house rules.

Just got into board games in the past couple years as an alternative, thanks largely in part to FFG and Descent… was nice to see a simple dungeon crawl being brought back to life.

Regardless… despite my complaining (again, I'm "old and crotchety"), I'm quite excited for the new edition to come out, and I like what FFG is doing with their "Print On Demand" stuff. Just hope it still feels like the same game, and not a new beast altogether. (D&D 4th edition, anyone?)

Now, if we can just get FFG to do away with those DAMNED TINY CARDS!!!! ARRGH!

The walkthrough scenario is great! Takes you nicely by the hand and guides you through the stages of the game and introduces the mechanics while you're playing! This 'learning by playing' rulebook is a great idea.

But when I was playing the big solo scenario a lot of questions came up…Now, two games later there are still questions but I got used to the gameplay…

Still my gaming group will kill me the day I introduce this game and start the explanation with: "Ok this is a little more complex than Arkham Horror"

Good thing I have work off tomorrow to read the rules when they come out. I want to know as much as possible before I head down to the Realms of Terrinoth Event at the end of the month. My group is already putting for time off come the end of July and August. This better be as epic as they say it's going to be.

With Gencon right around the corner…they anounced Descent 2 at last years Gencon, they are going to want to release it just before so they can get the store sales and then get the Gencon special edition sets or bonus stuff from Gencon sales for a double wammy. The preview events give them a chance to see how much interest there is and maybe get some press/people who never heard of it looking for it in a month or so. Plus with it problably getting made in China, the boxes are probalby on a shipping container right now and they can't announce anything until the container arrives at their facility. Containers often have a wide range of delay reasons, ocean/weather problems, delays at the port and rail, etc.

My release day bet is August 3-5th

That's a LONG time from the rulebook release date, when the rulebooks are normally released just a week or two before the game. I'm gonna be a bit more optimistic and say(hope) that the release is just a couple of weeks away, very shortly after the preview events.

There are some Descent 2E events planned at Gencon this year. Typically, when FFG releases a new game *at* Gencon, it's a surprise (still holding out for a Netrunner release!) The fact that there are scheduled events seems to me to preclude a Gencon release. My prediction is a 7/13 release, one week after the preview events.

My retailer in sweden, which I have had a standing order since January told me (June 1st) that they will have it June 30th. I don't have any expectation that it'll be so, but I'm crossing my fingers.

The status of both games just changed to "on the boat." Fantasy flight states that it takes four to six weeks for the "on the boat stage," and another week or so for the shipping process. That would average out to about 6 more weeks… meaning mid-August… if the estimates they describe hold true for Descent.

Tom Vasel (from The Dice Tower) mentioned in his latest Dicetower News video that "Descent 2.0" is being released this week. Can anyone confirm that?

Doubtful since FFG's official teaser release date was mid-July. If anything, Tom's release date was either for the FFG event since a few people bought a copy there or it's being released to shipping companies???

There is still the retailer preview event this weekend which is being supplied with pre-order forms to be filled and then shipped to the respective companies. I'm guessing their still in line with their mid-July release date.

So, does FFG ever do pre-orders? I'm glad that after months of silence they finally opened up the floodgates and showered us with previews. But in regards to getting the game into the hands of customers, they are being rather inscrutable. Do not they not know when the release date will be? If so, why not communicate it clearly?

Think of FFG like being a really popular politician. Do you ever get a strait answer from them?

So, middle of July, near third week. Case closed.
