I agree. I prefer they get it right even if it means waiting a few extra months. I want 2nd edition to fix everything that could be considered a problem with 1st edition but still retaining everything that was great about it.

Me too. But with this delay I think FFG wants to prevent the same kind of hassle with the bits and pieces as with Mansions of Madness Forbidden Alchemy. Descent will use two sided board pieces as well. So it's not about rules check but quality control of actual components, which is fine too. I rather wait a couple of months more and get high quality product right out the box.

Exactly. As long as we receive quality I don't mind waiting.

Even though I didn't mind the length, some of my friends did which makes it a hard sell to play as often as I would like. If the new game addresses the length and pace of the game (which it says it does) I'll be happy. Everything I've read suggests the game will be just as fun but shorter which is fine by me. The game is so easily expandable it would not be a problem to play a longer game (just vary the dungeon size) if everyone was up for it.

I'm also pretty excited to see how the new campaign rules work.

Phew! I am happy to hear it's delayed! I just got the expansions to Mansions of Madness because Descent: Journeys in the Dark is no where to be found!

I hope people dont get mad at me, but I am also glad it got delayed.

I will be on vacation on Feb, and I intend to do a Road to Legend campaign, and finally use all those Descent 1st expansions i got in the closet!

And also, my bank account needs a ressurection scroll, I bought so many games, I would have to sell one kidney to buy Descent 2nd if they released now!

OK, so I have an update about the release date.

I heared from some shops that the game will hit stores about end of April/ early May 2012. There's a small chance that we will see it 25th April but that's just a small chance so I would not count on that.

I know it's not that good information but still it's better then no info.

I just hope that after so much waiting the game is perfect. That there will be no such situation like the one with Forbitten Alchemy to Mansions of Madness. That the rules are perfect and well tested and that the components will be 1st quality (about this one I'm sure - it's FFG).

So there so much waiting but I think it's worth.

Can't wait for this game!

PS. If the news is true then I think we will start seeing any previews in march.

I doubt FFG can afford to screw up to this level again - both in terms of reputation as well as financially.

I can live with End April/Beginning May. As long as we start seeing previews soon to whet out appetites.

Seconded. With the passing of time, I've noticed, generally speaking, that many customers moved from an initial "OMG, what happened to FFG? Their product were flawless" to a sadder "oh, they did it AGAIN", as if having a screwed product is not any longer a rare exception. I strongly hope after the buggy FA (still waiting for replacements) they try to climb on top of the mountain again.

Oh, it's been a lot time with no news from FFG about this game.

Some shops said that the game will be avaliabe in March 2012 - I really doubt it.

So I made some research on my own, ask a little bit and got some anwsers but those are not good.

The optimystic version says that the game will be released in May 2012 but it's not for sure.

but according to some distributors the game is made to hit GenCon 2012 and not sooner.

So that's why we will not see a preview very soon and why we are not getting any info.

It will be good when the game will be avaliable in September 2012 in local game stores.

Ill try not to shoot the messenger on this one, but why would FFG announce the game for early 2012 and then as each quarter begins to whine down bump it back a quarter. Knowing the whole time they planned to release/announce at GenCon12. I’m not saying your wrong or its misinformation but from a business stand point that doesn’t make much sense to me. Don’t get me wrong GenCon is a great place for these types of announcements. so why not be upfront with the intent to release later this year? Why originally announce 2nd edition so long ago? The hype from the original announcement has already begun to die down. There used to be multiple new posts every day and it has slowly dwindled down to a new post every 3 or so days. I mean you can only rehash what little information we have so many times. you know what would make me laugh? if it was released 5-15-12. ;) sorry I couldnt resist.

Well, we can assume that artwork, design, miniatures and other physical stuff are ready.

Rules and game mechanism, you can tweak those two for hours and still dont have a satisfying results and maybe there is our problem about delaying the game so much.

If you take if from a FFG point of view: We missed the hype peak, lets wait for another geek focus point (game con) and redirect our all efforts to that date. We will have plenty of time to complete rules and game mechanism to our full satisfaction. And players? Players will be happy that we put so much time to rules (i think we will :) )

I think that Pseudo Rage is right. If the true release date was may, we will se at least first new preview this month. At least, announcment about hard work and cool new options.

I would be glad, if Pseudo and me were wrong about our speculations but i wouldnt be angry either. I will wait and be expecting a great product :)

For me also this is strange. The game was announced in august 2011 and now the hype is gone.

I'm really waiting for this title and I'm excited about it.

But still I would like to see this game sooner then at GenCon 2012.

I ask this week one of European distributors and they said that from the news that they got from FFG now the official date in 25th April.

But like I said I also asked in other shops and got different anwsers - 15th May 2012 or even GenCon 2012.

I think that this game is ready becouse as I heared a rumour that FFG started working on this title on 2010. So it was long time ago.

At last years GenCon when they annouced the game they showed almost a ready product but without minis.

That's all I wanted to say.

I will keep my fingers crossed to see this game very soon in stores.

Cheers

I've asked the same to my usual game pusher. "No definitive date scheduled yet" was his answer. I guess we won't see the game that soon (April, 25th and no preview yet has no sense to me). And if we don't see it arriving in May, I guess we'll have to wait September (still it has no sense under a financial point of view realeasing a potential hit when people go on vacation and won't notice the game)

You've got it. They've changed the game to a Blizzard license, changed the name to Diablo and will be releasing it at the same time as D3 hits the shelves. That is why they kept pushing the date. They were just following Blizzard's constant changes.

There can be many reasons for delay. Hype wise I don't think FFG has missed anything as the only people who were excited about the 2nd edition were the existing Descent players (most of who are still excited about it). For the bigger audience the new Descent is just one game among the multitude of great games. The only sure way for FFG to win big time is to make sure that the final product is very high quality and that it will blow the competition out of the water. Then there will be hype and there will be sales. Everybody wins. The whole board game scene is changing very very fast and ideas that were fresh in 2010 (when the 2nd edition project started) might be proven weak and old by many games in between. It might be that they're tweaking the system, but I think it is unlikely.

Still I think that the real reason for the delay is production value related. After the tile printing mixup with the Mansions of Madness expansion and weak quality board binding in at least the A Game of Thrones 2nd edition and Rex: Final Days of the Empire FFG image of high quality board game producer was weakened. The games are great, but the quality control wasn't up to speed. If you spend closer to 100 dollars on a product you really expect it to be very high quality. Since nowadays most of the games are printed and produced in China or somewhere else in that part of the world it can be a very lenghty project to ensure high quality if something is going awry. Maybe FFG even needed to change factories in order to get the quality they require, who knows.

Naturally I'd love to see some previews and get more info. But I'm not in a hurry. I'm playing other games while I wait. There are so many amazing games out there and so little time...

I don't know about hypewise, but they do have a problem. My son and I really got into boardgames last year while in France and Descent was on the top of our list for when we got back. Then 2nd edition was announced so we decided to wait, and we are still waiting...If they hadn't announced it so soon we would be playing D1 happily right now. Our local game store doesnt have any copies of D1, and has expansions that are not selling....everyone is waiting...this can't be good for the bottom line of FFG.

There was a time when FFG would communicate with customers about mysteries and questions such as this on this forum. There has seemingly been a culture change within the organization and they no longer seem to be doing that, at least on the Descent forum(s). Anyone have any theories on why this may be the case? There is an element among the gaming community that will whine about anything, and who you just can't please no matter what. Maybe they got tired of seeming to pander to that crowd...I don't know. Or maybe there is a more specific reason having to do with marketing philosophy or a particular individual no longer caring enough or some other internal change at the company.

One thing I've learned is to not trust any projections the company makes regarding when a product will become available to purchase. You'll just end up being frustrated. We'll have Descent 2.0 when we have it. If there is no repeat of the Mansions of Madness catastrophe or the Descent Quest Compendium fiasco, so much the better!

You would hope that at the end of the day, the company will offer its customers some explanation for this situation however.

@Schmiegel - Yes, there were time like these but it's not now. Things change in a bad way.

The Upcomming section is a one big mess. There's a lot of games not updated. There's a lot of games that are all realdy in stores from a week or even longer and in Upcomming there are still on the boat. For example - Road To Rivendell. And there a games taht change the release date but did not get an update on that either. For example - Rising Dawn (will be released in April).. So that section is a mess. Some one should do somthing abot it.

Second thing are the news that are not shown on the main page. Last weekn on the main page was no info about updated F&Q nad Championship rules for all LCGs. But those news were posted. You could only see them when clicking on More News button. Becouse those were hidden.

Third is the communication with us customers. I wrote 4 mails to 4 different sections of FFG and after 5 days I got only 1 anwser. And You know what this anwser was? We can't tell You any thing look at the upcomming section if You what to know the realease dates. They even did not wrote me the release date in a mail, They send me back to FFGs site to the not udated Upcomming section.

Forth I really don't know what was the purpose of announcing Descent 2ed so soon when they did not know when they release it. Even Star Wars LCG or Dust Warfare got an update that the game will be avaliable later. And about Descent 2ed there's NOTHING!

Oh, and fifth there are games that were annouced a lot time later and are already on the boat like Fortress America so what's wrong with Descent 2e?

I really don't know what's happening to FFG! Where were so close to an idealistic gaming firm and now?

Cheers

It sure is disturbing. Note that i'm no expert in the matter and only reentered the hobby 3 years ago. The mojority of the games in my collection are from FFG/Edge and love them with a passion. Great games with fun mechanics, quality components and sh*tty rulebooks lengua.gif

Announcing a game in august 2011 and not giving any news and updates sure ask for trouble and it's completely normal to have questions and concerns about the state of the game and most importantly, the behavior of FFG in this matter. But on the other hand, they ahve their hands full of projects and with the recents and steady "FFG is hiring" announcements, I can't help myself to think there maybe be 2 type of situations:

1- FFG just need more brains and talents to deliver the promised and announced games and products

2- FFG lost many good people and staff due to...inner problems/management issues/unhealthy or bad atmosphere...

I cant help but compare this to an upcoming video game called Grim Dawn. Crate announced GD early in the development. But, oppositely to FFG, they're feeding it's fans with infos, videos, state of progress AND occasionnally posting "mea culpas" and updates about the state of the game and the announced "alpha", "beta" dates. That's what I call customer respect. They don't hide behind the internet and leaving zero feedback to its fan base.

I'm gonna speculate a bit here but reading lots of "I don't care i'll buy the game anyways" comments could lead to FFG not feeling the necessity of releasing any informations about Descent 2nd seeing that we're gonna buy the game anyways. I'm probably completely wring about it though.

Not saying FFG is hiding or don't care about us, but it certainly look like it. I Sincerely hope we're wrong on this matter though and like all of us here would like a rep or mod to schime in and just give us something to feed our geek appetite.

Hope to hear from you soon FFG.

I'm seeing games that have been announced later than GenCon 2011 getting regular news and preview feeds...and we still have yet to get more than an announcement for Descent 2E. I'd hate to think that they're hiding EVERYTHING until the day they release it.

I wish they'd just come out and say "Sorry. We have no clue when this thing's coming out." or "Sorry. We decided to release it at GenCon 2012."

It's certainly better than waiting for nothing.

Mark my words, though. Come Sunday, we'll see an epic release news entry that "Descent 2E has hit stores today! Go and buy it!!!" because I know there's got to be at least ONE sadistic bastard at FFG who'd love to get a laugh out of that. demonio.gif

I wouldn't be at all surprised if they want to try and ride on the hype of Diablo III a little bit...

I don't care about Diablo III. I want this game! I want Descent: Journeys In The Dark Second Edition!!!

There are titles that were annouced a lot later and they are already on the boat and other got even some previews. And we don't get nothing!

Where are the preview FFG? Where's this game? Any news would be great.

Even Star Wars LCG got an update that the game will be later (3Q 2012). And we did not even get that!

And I got a even bigger news for You all, a very sad news.

Form one of the distributors I heared that this game will be delayed and will be avaliable between 3Q and 4Q 2012. And I just hope that this is a joke!

Cheers.

PS. A got another anwser form FFG becouse I asked about the release date and when will we see the previews. I got na anwser like this - "Thank You for Your interest in our games. Sorry, but this information is unavaliable." - is this a joke?

I hope it is a joke too, but I'm afraid it's not. Let's speculate a little. It's still at the printer. Then it's supposed to stay 6 weeks on the boat, plus another 2 to reach the stores. Even if the game is moved from "in production" to "shipping now" today, it won't reach the stores before end of May / beginning of June. In the US. This means more or less one month more to reach all stores in the world. Thus, July. This means the game will hit the market during summer, with people on vacation, and in September newer games will be flooding the market as well, giving the Descent less public than the expected. Plus, if FFG answers with a "this information is not available", technically this means the game is not about to be shipped. Hence, I don't think there is a chance we will see it before September (if we're lucky)

But of course, I really hope to be wrong

It's funny how FFG is looking more and more like the stubborn, proud ans spoiled little kid lengua.gif

Don't state information you can't back up dudes and dudettes!

I guess there is no weak or unprovable point in my reasoning; it's about economy laws (feel free to input on the market your product on August, the 2nd, then tell me) and a reasoning on the info provided on this very site (number of weeks required to ship the items around)

But please, if you feel something I wrote is faulty, highlight it, we can debate it happy.gif

My post wasn't directed at you Julia but at FFG, both sentences.

Or maybe I didn't understood the meaning of your last one (it could really be that since englis is a second language to me)...

Anyways, I think FFG is over us about this product since they know we'll buy it anyways. Even if that's true a company should not be allowed to act like that. I talked about in an earlier post on here about another company who announced a product really early in the develpment but still is as transparent as it can be with it's fan base. That's what i'd like to see in FFG.
