Release date information?? Any update?

By Atraangelis, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hello community,

I was wondering if there was an update to the relase date for Descent (2nd ed) other than early 2012?

Im eagerly anticipating this game and cant really wait.! babeo.gif

Not as yet.

Keep your eyes on the news page, though.

I got some news.

I asked some of the shops I know for any news.

And according to many of them Descent: Journeys In The Dark Second Edition will hit stores all over the world between 21st and 31st January 2012.

This date was confimed by Amazon, Maelstrom and some smaller companies.

So now I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that and waiting for pre-order in my FLGS.

Awesome, Thanks for the info.

Are there any pormo for pre order ?

None announced as yet. Personally I hope it stays that way.

Awesome if this is correct! Hopefully they will give us some more screenshots/rule updates soon.

I hope the "hit stores all over the world" clause is true. Sadly, most of the stores here in Italy still feature as possible release date 31st March 2012 (and by release I'm referring to the English edition distribution). The lack of news we received in the last months worries me a little

I have never owned or played Descent, the first edition, but am very interested in purchasing the 2nd Ed. Am I correct to assume that all that I'll need to know (instructions) and possess (game parts/pieces/etc.) will be included in this 2nd edition release? Or will it be necessary for me to have something from the 1st edition (to play the 2nd edition)? Thanks!

Don't get psyched by the lull. They announced the game early to make the conventions, but they're holding on to the previews for when the game is ready to ship. If the end of January is a legit date, we should be seeing those previews any time now. If we haven't seen anything by the new year, then I'd begin to suspect it's not going to make that date.

Yes, second edition will be standalone, so you don't NEED anything from 1e to play it. That said, there will be a conversion kit to bring some of the 1e components forward to 2e.

::laughter:: ok, no psyched Julia. Let's hope to see some preview from here to Christmas, then :-)

Originally FRP Games had it as Jan but now they have it set to be released in March. But who knows. My vote would be for Jan =)

Maelstrom Games still has the date set on January 21st.

www.maelstromgames.co.uk/index.php

But according the FFG upcoming list the game is still at the factory and knowing the shipping times of games the time is running out. My bet is unfortunately on March.

Would be nice to get SOME new info though. It has been a loooooong wait and I'm growing impatient...

End of January release would be great, but considering how little information we've had on this, and how close the end of actually is, I'd suggest that is unlikely. As much as I'd like it to be the case....

What I'd really like to know is, have they changed the heart symbols on the dice yet? It's so confusing to me to see hearts doing damage...

/sarcasm... Sorry, I'm English, any excuse for sarcasm... :)

Well played, sir. Well played indeed.

Ok so January 1st constitutes as early 2012 right? So where is descent 2? I sure hope this isn’t the board game equivalent of Diablo 3. I’m so excited about this game. That even my own geekiness is starting to offend myself.

Yes, Januray 1st constitutes "early 2012." Unfortunately, so does March 2012. Any time in the first quarter, really.

And as far as Diablo 3 goes, if you haven't learned to expect significant delays from Blizzard by now, you'll never learn. =P Of course, I've never known them to release a game that wasn't worth waiting for, either...

According to one fellow gamer on the BoardGameGeek forums the FFG customer support had emailed him and told that the game is still "locked for early 2012". Lets hope this also means that the previews start soon.

Just checked the status of my preorder from Maelstrom Games UK. They have updated the release date to 21st of April. So no wonder there has been no previews yet. Has anyone else heard anything?

The upcoming section on the FFG site has been updated for 2nd Edition Descent. It now says 2nd Quarter 2012.

I prefer to believe that this means they are making EXTRA SURE there's nothing wrong with the components or rules. As such, I am willing to wait a bit longer than expected.

Edit: Besides, the Rex previews have started, so I suspect my wallet will be plenty busy anyway =P

I agree. I prefer they get it right even if it means waiting a few extra months. I want 2nd edition to fix everything that could be considered a problem with 1st edition but still retaining everything that was great about it.

Me too. But with this delay I think FFG wants to prevent the same kind of hassle with the bits and pieces as with Mansions of Madness Forbidden Alchemy. Descent will use two sided board pieces as well. So it's not about rules check but quality control of actual components, which is fine too. I rather wait a couple of months more and get high quality product right out the box.

"I sure hope this isn’t the board game equivalent of Diablo 3."

and so it begins......
