As I begin to play more and more dust tactics I wish more and more I could make my own maps. I think ffg should make a map maker where the player can make, and buy their own maps. I think this would be very beneficial to leagues who want to have tourneys, and fun for average players too.
Custom map making!
Do you mean a custom tile maker because its easy enough to make your own tiles, and printing custom tiles would be expensive for both us and FFG as they normally print things like tiles in huge batches. To make custom tile your self just buy chipboard tiles; I would recommend 12" x 12". print out your custom tile then glue the two together. after the glue set cut down the square to 11" x 11". Or just glue custom prints to your tiles.
That's true, but I mean the grid map, the one you put the tiles on. Thanks for the help though.
You can make your own simply by drawing the grid on whatever terrain board you create. Seal it after, and it should last quite nicely.
The terrain tile set comes with additional buildings that are different than those in Operation Seelowe, so you can use the buildings from both of those to give a fair amount of variety without having to build more of your own.
Alternatively, you could get a large piece of felt, and draw the grid on it to have a roll up map surface you could add smaller tiles or other terrain to.
A little bit of care, and you can have a simple, yet reasonably affordable gridded map to use with DUST Tactics. Leave it blank on the opposite side, and that one can work if you want to use DUST Warfare rules, as well.
The grid is 90mm squares (just over 3.5"), but you could go slightly larger or smaller and have it still work.
Cool, thanks for the help!
Here's ours, just two 2'x4' boards fixed to 1"x2" batons. Painted with white textured paint, add a few pale coloured splats to break up the white and then just draw on the grid with a pencil.
You can also use chalk to chalk out a grid even on 3D terrain or on a dirt table or use a water based spray to grid out on a dirt table.
I have seen people use a bed sheet and just spray out a grid on the sheet.
Very nice Major mishap! Where can I find some of that terrain?
The excellent walls can be downloaded and printed from Board Game Geek here: http://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/61124/papercraft-bunker-walls
I've replaced external random walls all the scenarios have with a bit of dense woodland (same rules) Just use a square of MDF as a base, buy cheap Fir trees and corkbark rocks, a slight spray of white to give a snow effect and snow scatter to finish. I've also made sandbag and tree tiles to replace the ammo crates. All very quick, cheap and simple to make.
