2 Unrelated Questions

By imrahil327, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Easy one first: Does attaching a duplicate count as your one card 'played or put into play' for the purposes of Fear of Winter? A friend told me yesterday that it did count, I just wanted to confirm.

Now a tougher one (I think):

Situation: Player A has Aggo out

Response: After you win a Military challenge in which every attacking character has the Dothraki trait, move 1 power from the losing opponent's House card to your own.

Player B has a character with Icy Catapult attached:

Limited Response: After attached character leaves play, choose and kill a character without attachments.

Player A initiates a military challenge against player B, and wins. The question is: Can player B kill the character with Catapult for claim, and use the Catapult on Aggo, before Aggo's Response is triggered? Or are they in the same Response window and thus it is up to the First Player to decide? Or something else entirely?

Totally. Why wouldn't it? A duplicate may be titleless, textless and traitless, but it is still a card. And it is undoubtedly played. So of course it counts against FoW.

Not tough at all. gui%C3%B1o.gif

Yes, Player B can kill the character with Icy Catapult for claim. That character dies before *any* Response is triggered. The important point is, though, that any cards that are removed from play (killed, discarded, returned to hand, deck, shadows) stay physically on the table and are able to trigger their responses until the very end of the action window. Yes, the first player has the first response opportunity, but it doesn't really matter in this case.

The timing is like this:

1-3) Framework events initiate and, if no save or cancel responses interrupt them, resolve (1. Determine winner of challenge - 2. Challenge result is implemented/Character with Catapult dies here, but stays physically on the table - 3. Reward for unopposed challenge is awarded - 4. Renown is awarded)

4) Passive Effects resolve. It is here that Icy Catapult realizes it is attached to a character that is bound to leave play (i.e. moribund), and becomes moribund itself. Doesn't matter, though, because it, too, remains on the table for the time being.

5) Responses. Two Responses happen. Icy Catapult kills Aggo, and Aggo gets to move 1 power from Player B's to Player A's House Card. The First Player has the first response opportunity, but it doesn't really matter, because both will happen. Even if the Catapult's response comes first, and Aggo is killed before he triggers his response, he too will remain physically on the table and be able to trigger his response.

6) Moribund cards leave play. Icy Catapult is discarded, character it was attached to and Aggo go to the dead pile.

So the short answer is basically that both effect will happen, regardless of First Player, timing, etc? (I.E. Catapult will NOT stop Aggo from stealing the power)

Yep, that's the short answer.

Awesome, thanks! I definitely do appreciate the longer answer, as I am still fairly new and trying to learn all of the intricacies of this mostly awesome game. I just wanted to make sure I was understanding correctly. :)
