AGOT Dabbler list of LCG Champion cards (missing Gualdo's Meera Reed)

Looks like we are still waiting for 2010 Melee and Overall cards which is wierd because The Laughing Storm came out 8 chapter packs ago. I would think we will see them soon...

Hater.

So actually how many cards are created by players each year?

1 for overall champion at Gencon

1 for meele champion at Gencon

1 for joust champion at Gencon

and 1 or 2 from Stahleck ?

Last year it was only the Joust champ. This year, the melee champ will get one, too, I hear.

Last year, the Stahleck Melee was Kingsmoot, so no card. This year, it was the regular format, so the Melee champion gets a card (and probably the overall champion as well).

Mathlete, Joust alone is not enough to be a champion, you have to be good in the Melee, too. The simultaneous existence of a one-to-one format and a multiplayer format, both interesting and supported, is part of what makes AGoT a great game.

Finally, another "Melee sucks" - "No it doesn't, you suck" - "No, you SUCK" slugfest. It's been literally days since we had one. *Leans back and grabs popcorn*

There is no Stahleck overall champion. At least, none was recognized at the tourney in any way.

Hey, I didn't say anyone sucked, I just dislike the "Melee sucks" attitude pretty strongly (about as much as I dislike the less common "Joust sucks" attitude).

Sorry Khudziln, that was not directed at you at all. You just happened to be the last person to post. Its just that I expect this discussion to flare up again, and usually it's great entertainment for us bystanders to watch. I apologize again for the misunderstanding.

Don't worry, I didn't take your post as an attack. However, I'm ready to defend my viewpoint and I wish you fun as a bystander, should this flare up gui%C3%B1o.gif.

Yes, now that I reread your above post, you DID admonish Mathlete for his somewhat, uh, inflammatory post. That makes you a combattant. I'll be in the stands, munching hotdogs and watching. ~I'll be cheering for the opposition, though, because frankly, Melee sucks. gui%C3%B1o.gif

I think it's quite funny to release a newly refurbished lord with the title "Newly Made Lord". Do you think this was FFG's reasoning for the title?

But then, "First snow of winter" should be called "second snow of winter" now, and the ghost would need a new title as well :-)

So you're entering the arena as well? Anyway, I'm going to get training with admonishing, with no lesser personnage than the European Melee Champion (also Night's Watch in my meta) who, by his own admission, doesn't like Melee (this is a position I respect a lot more than "Melee sucks", though).

In that case, give my kindest regards to Fishiste. We stayed in the same hotel and had a few chats. I played him in the Joust, and he judged my quarterfinal. I'd really like to come to France sometime to play in one of your tourneys. Please post dates on these boards.

That said - you *are* talking about the *current* European Melee Champion, right? Because if you're not, please disregard all of the above.

Sorry for this derailment of the current thread derailment. GO TEAM JOUST!

Yes, Ratatoskr, I am talking about the current European Melee Champion, Fishiste.

Actually, in the first six years of the game, Joust ALONE is what determined a champion. gui%C3%B1o.gif

For the record, I did list all of the cards for Clu when I responded to this thread. Also, I DO NOT hate Melee or want to take anything away from the MELEE World Champion. In fact, i really do enjoy Melee. I love when the three people at the table are gunning for me and I still win. i can respect the fact tthat FFG created championships for both events. And, I have HUGE RESPECT for those who win the European events based on the numbers that attendthose events. There are many more players to overcome to win a title. The fact that the European winners get to create a card is a great idea.

I have no problem with awarding titles to both Joust and Melee winners. Both the Joust Champ and the Melee Champ actually WON a tourney. They both require a different skill set to be successful. I just don't want to play competitive, tourney-based Melee because I don't always believe the winner is decided based on his own merits. Gencon 2011 was a killjoy for many people. There is a reason why.

I have more respect for the guy who goes out and wins Wimbledon in singles than the winner of the Indy 500 who won thanks to his "team" of drivers that helped him control the course.

i'm not trying to start a falme war and do not feel that I needed "admonishing". I'm not attackinging anyone. in the end, it's Christian Peterson's game and he cn do whatever he feels makes the game better. Even though I haven't always agreed with all of his decisions, I respect him and I can't argue with his success. Also, I do feel the game is at a WAY BETTER place today than it was in the CCG-era.

Besides, all of this is just my opinion. I think we still have the right to express opinions. happy.gif

Thanks to everyone for their help in constructing this list. I'm putting together a deck building workshop for the locals and thought about arbitrary themes. I've never tried to put them all into one deck before but it will make a good example. Remember, there are no bad ideas, just better solutions.

I just put that last quote on a poster of a kitten and put it up on my wall. lengua.gif

Oh, and melee rocks! 'Competative' melee however... gui%C3%B1o.gif But, anything that brings new players into the game - which melee has DEFINATELY done - is great in my books. I just would like to see how many of last year's participants/viewers think it is a good idea competatively...5%? 1%? It was 0% that I saw. *will never revisit this thread again* gran_risa.gif

And VERY happy that the Euro-zone gets to design a card, that really did need to happen great players and people. ~So I can travel there and win one someday (j/k!). Especially after it sounds like the continent is going to fall into the sea if you listen to the press...(good luck Italy!).

You seemed to imply the Joust Champion was the only Champion who mattered (I may have misunderstood your post, though). That was what I was responding to (I have nothing personal against you, I was attacking what I thought you were saying).

I agree that Melee depends on more than deckbuilding and technical game skill. It's also about bluff (can be used in Joust), manipulation and backstabbing just at the critical moment to get the win. Outright collusion is of course a bad thing and unfortunately, it's very hard to control. It's rarely obvious (people can make mistakes in how they evaluate the game situation). I think people need to play more Melee (I was astonished to hear that some people asked whether making deals about plots before choosing them was legal).

As for your last line, I couldn't agree more. Let's all express our opinions with arguments to support them. happy.gif
