About The 'Desert' space...

By Jonz, in Talisman

Hi to all you guys.

I have a question about the Desert space .If there is already a char in the Desert space and my PG goes in to that space, i can choose to encounter the space OR the enemy PG. If i decide to encounter the enemy charinstead of the space, my PG loose the 1 vitality point or not?

What is your opinion on that?

Sorry to all if the question was already done.

Thank you all for your time.

My understanding is that:

if you encounter another character on the Desert then you don't explore it and you don't lose life (stupid but by the rules)

if you don't encounter a character then you encounter the desert space (with cards or not) and you do lose life.

It's a bit odd but if you encounter a Character, you do not encounter the Space. If you fight a Character in the Desert you do not lose a Life and don't draw a card as well. The same happens in Chapel and Graveyard. If you're Evil and attack a Character on the Chapel Space, you do not lose a Life because you do not encounter the Space.

I know that many people aren't happy with this rigid application of the rule, because it makes Desert Spaces less important. I might have lost a Life in the Desert only once in 16 games of Talisman. I recall that because my Prophetess (2 Lives left) died on that Space in the same turn, because I firstly drew the Demon (had only few chances to win) and secondly drew the Devil that took away my last Life. This case excluded, Desert Spaces are not the most dangerous in the Middle Region.

Bah, I saw a Minstrel this week go to Oasis with 1 Life and draw Poltergeist partido_risa.gif ! That'll teach him to plan his moves better lengua.gif .

Thank you for your answers guys.

I have played it rightly, but the dubt goes on and on when one of my friends tell that ' version ' of the desert space: you must loose 1 life and then goes for encounter space(draw the card) or another char.

By the way thank you again.

A stupid rule that was in 2nd edition and has survived to 4th. That was the first thing we housed in 4th.

The cursed glade is also a lot more fun if you can battle P2P without the use of magic objects.
