Some Question from new players vol1

By Ilias Tselios, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hello we just started AGOT in our shop and have some questions already!!!If someone could help out, we would be grateful.

1) After losing a military challenge, can you choose to kill a character if he has an attachement that "saves him from been killed" on him?

2) Bran Stark from the starter decks, has an ability to reveal a new plot in plot phase. Thisew plot replaces the plot you played before or do both plots take effect?

Thank you in advance!

Just a little joke. Welcome to this great game! Hope you'll enjoy yourselves.

No to the questions:

1) Yes, that character can be chosen to be killed. After he is chosen, the player that controls the attachment can use it to save the character. The situation is entirely different when "cannot be killed" effects are active, though. Kill effects are just not applying to characters that cannot be killed. Characters that cannot be killed can't be chosen as targets for kill effects, either. Let's say you have a two characters in play. One has the Noble crest, the other has no noble crest, but has Bodyguard attached to him. Your opponent reveals the Plot The Power of Blood, which says that Noble-crested characters cannot be killed. You reveal Valar Morghulis, which kills all characters in play. Your noble-crested character is not affected by the kill effect of Valar. Your other character is targeted to be killed, but you save him by discarding your Bodyguard. In the challenge phase of the same round, let's say you still have only those two characters in play. Your opponent wins a Military challenge against you. Your noble-crested guy still can't be killed, so he cannot be chosen to die for claim. That means you must choose the non-noble-crested character to die for claim.

2) This card tends to be pretty confusing with newbies. It comes down to this:

You can use Brans ability either before or after plots are chosen normally in the plot phase. So, you do one of the following:

a) You use Bran to reveal a plot card. The When revealed effect of the plot resolves completely. Then all players choose plots normally. First Player is chosen, When revealed effects resolve. The plot you've chosen during this step is now your revealed plot and, and its Gold/Claim stats and constant effects count for the round.

b) All players choose plots normally. First Player is chosen, When revealed effects resolve. Then, you use Bran to reveal a new plot card. That plot's When revealed effect resolves. That plot is now your revealed plot and, and its Gold/Claim stats and constant effects count for the round.

A nice way to use Bran is the following: Use him to reveal Valar Morghulis before plots are chosen normally. Kill all characters in play. Then choose another plot with better stats. That way you get to use Valar's powerful effect without having to put up with its crappy stats and zero claim. Unless you have means to save him, you'll lose Bran in the process, though.

Thank you for your fast reply!
