Additional Newbie Descent Questions

By valoren, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

1) There are only 4 melee training tokens. Does this limit the heroes to only four melee
purchases in a game? For example, lets say three heroes play melee characters. Two of the
heroes buy 2 melee training tokens each (so four have been purchased). Thus the third
melee hero would not be able to purchase a melee training token since the shop is out of
the melee training tokens.

2) The only use for an OL rolling surges is for collecting threat (2 surge = 1 threat token
if not a miss). There are no other options, correct?

1) Yes

2) Normally yes. However if you own AoD and have Dark Priests, then they convert 1 surge into 1 Threat, and get 1 damage +1 range for each surge.

From what I remember, everything in the game is explicitly limited by the number of tokens available in the set. So if the heroes posses 9 life potions, then they can no longer purchase any, nor will any appear in the dungeon until they use some. Along those lines, I believe the same goes for money and overlord threat (which I think caps at 68?).

Surges also do special things for Trolls (AoD), due to the Bash ability, and if the heroes get the Fear ability (there's a gold treasure that grants it) then monsters can of course spend surges to overcome the Fear .

However, except when there's an effect that specifically allows surges to be spent on something else, the only use for the surges monsters roll is 2 surges -> 1 threat (and that option is only available if you hit a hero).

That's right, I forgot about Bash. Thanks for throwing that in there.
