Encounters with multiple enemies

By DefilerCGN, in WFRP Rules Questions

Hi there!

I'm just starting with WHFRP (played it once).

Now I will try my first session a a GM on next saturday and there's one thing, that seems a little bit odd to me:

In the Game Master's Guide on page 50 is the following written:

When more than one NPC or monster is present in an encounter,
each type of NPC or monster shares a single allotment of Aggression,
Cunning, and Expertise dice for simplicity – you do not
multiply these values by the number of creatures present.

so, example:

I've got an encounter planned out with 3 enemies of the same kind, each has an A/C/E rating of 2/4/1...

Does that mean that only one of the three enemies can use the one point in expertise?

Typically, yes. As said, it is to make things easier for the GM. Similarly, enemies of the same type also share their action cards ... so if one uses Dodge, the others cannot until it refreshes.

That said, there are a number of optional rules.

- You could, of course, treat each NPC as separate and manage separate pools.

- You could use a single pool, but add 1 die to each category for each NPC of that type after the first. For example, 3 enemies with an A/C/E of 2/4/1 ... would result in a single pool of 4/6/3. Typically, using this option, you should limit a single dice pool addition to the normal single-enemy limit. ie, a single enemy couldn't add all 3 expertise dice to a single roll ... they would be limited to 1 expertise die per roll.
