I have a few questions.

1. Horseback Archers -

Can I use the ability of HBA and have it participate in MIL challenge alone as either attacker or defender? I know I asked this during the CCG days but I just don't remember the justification.

2. The Red Viper (PotS) and He Calls It Thinking

When I successfully cancel a response with HCIT, is The Red Viper a legal recipient of the event/attachment?

1. He cannot attack alone with using his ability as the Military challenge will not start until you declare an attacker. And you can use HBA's ability only if there is a Military challenge.

On the other hand you can put him as the only defender - using his ability - after you have not declared defenders during the "declare defenders" phase. Actually, you can put him as a defender BEFORE you declare defenders as there is an Action phase after attackers are declared and before defenders declared.

2. The HCIT is not targeting the Red Viper at all. The event is cancelling another card and after that you can attach it to a Martell character. Red Viper is a Martell character without attachment restriction, so Red Viper can have the He Call It Thinking.
