Red Vengeance - How Does It Apply To A Joust?

By BenStark, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

My wife and I have discovered the horrors of Martell. Playing Martell is alot like playing Scorpion from L5R, bad things happen, whether you win or lose.

However, we've got a question concerning the card "Red Vengeance" and how it applies to Jousts, specifically power challenges.

The card reads "Response: After you lose a challenge as the defender, kneel 2 influence to cancel the claim effect of that challenge. Then, choose an opponent to satisfy the claim of that challenge as if he or she had lost the challenge as the defender." So, how would this card resolve? I believe it would happen like this:

Opponent wins a challenge, and then

Military - they must kill x number of characters to meet the claim value on their plot card.

Intrigue - they must discard x number of cards to meet the claim value.

Power - This is where we disagree. I believe that the opponent would then have to give up x number of power to you. My wife disagrees, believing that the opponent would simply keep their power and gain no additional power.

Any help on how to figure this out? Thanks in advance!

Your wife is mostly correct- the claim for a power challenge is "The defending opponent takes a number of power counters from his House card equal to the claim value on the attacker’s revealed plot card, and places them on the attacker’s House card." So when Red Vengeance is played, the attacker would take a number of power counters equal to the claim off their house card, and put it back on their house card, since they were still the attacker.

this question is specifically answered in the faq. page 23.

How does Red Vengeance (Princes of the Sun
F25) work during a power challenge?
The opponent chosen to satisfy the claim of
a $ challenge moves power from his or her
House card to the attacking player's House
card. In some instances, this could amount to
a single player moving power from his or her
House card back to his or her House card
