Warpsbane hull?

By Darkmittens, in Rogue Trader Rules Questions

so does the warpsbane hull replace or add to a geller field, we are working out the ships for our party but can't figure out wether or not it adds, it doesn't say in the book that it replaces, rulewise but in the description it says that they are added in addition to a geller field, so does it add the geler fields power requirement to itself?

Warpsbane Hull is a type of Gellard Field. You can't have the same Essential Component type twice, so you can't have two Gellar Field Components.

Warpsbane Hull is itself a Geller Field. That gives bonuses and costs SP. Well all ships that were made in my company had Warpsbane Hull, for it is possiby the best equipment there is for Geller Field.

but then why in the world would anyone even choose a regular geller field, and why then would it say in addition to a geller field... i understand that it can only have one of each necessary component, but it doesn't make any sense to create to almost equal components but then make one so clearly better, all the other components have some difference in function or points to take but these don't

SP cost. A regular gellar field acquired post-creation is Scarce, while a Warpsbane is Very Rare, assuming you can even find someone able to perform the necessary consecrations.

Ship Point costs and Availability. Not everyone puts priority on a better Gellar Field, many players like a more powerful Weapon or some useful Supplemental Component.

Warps bane hull is an upgrade that isn't exactly a Gellar Field, but a supplement to it. Gellar fields don't normally go on the entire hull ;)

Actually, this question was put to the devs ages ago on this forum somewhere (yes i'm to lazy to search) and as was mentioned higher up: the warpsbane hull is a gellarfield. The actual field itself is projected from a statue on the hull of a ship, the inscriptions on the hull reinforce that. You - in other words - don't need a gellar field in addition to a warspbane hull as you can only have one of each essential component.

Yeah, it seems like everyone stops reading the description of the warpsbane hull halfway through.

For the people that are still having issues with the why you can't include a warpsbane hull in other gellar fields, consider this: truesilver is a psychically reactive substance, an incredible conductor of psychic energy. If your Gellar Field is not designed with these resonances in mind, the hull itself could rip open tears in the field.
