Help me please!
What Tournament Staples Should I Pick Up Going Into Block Three?
Help us first:
What characters or resource symbols are you primarily planning on building? How many decks?
^- what he said.
but without any sort of knowledge whatsoever
Olcadan's Mentoring - get a playset ASAP as in block three this card goes 4x-3x of in every deck you will build.
Seal of Cessation
Lynette's Shop
For what resource ?
If your just getting into the game, dont pick a deck that requires things like Feline spike or Defender. They are powerful but limited in use and really costly. Heres a list of cards that you can reliably assume that if your playing a deck with matching symbols you will want to run them:
Ocladans Mentoring
Lynettes Shop
Ways Of Punishment
Sayko-Ryu
Lord of the Makai (invest wisely, could go away in my opinion)
Aquakinesis
Mega Spike
Forethought
Spirit of Athens
Experenced Combatant
Kuzuryu Reppa
Rejection
The Gorgeous Team
Tiger Fury
Blinding Rage
High Plasma Beam
The Glare From the Abyss
Battle Prowess
Blood Runs True (yea its costly, but more important than most ultras)
King for fighters 2006
Revenants Calling
Chesters Backing
Chineese Boxing
Program Malfunction
N Type Human
White Magic
Psycho Style
Mentally Unstable
There are probably more but who knows, its really best to figure out what your going to play first.
Blood Runs True
Olcadan's Mentoring
Lord of the Makai
Chester's Backing
Seal of Cessation
I was looking to play Rock Howard, Donovan, but honestly I want the ability to play anyone so I just kind of kept it open ended.
What does BRT come in?

SNK Cutting Edge Starter Box - It's the promo.
olcadon's mentoring, and to a lesser ecstent, seal of ceasation, are the only true every deck staples.
In terms of UFS "staples," there are particular cards which feature regularly in decks based upon certain symbols, eg, Blood Runs True will usually feature in decks playing the Evil, Order or All symbols; likewise Feline Spike will often be used as an attack in decks featuring the Air, Good or Water symbols.
Possibly the only true "staples" of UFS, in that they appear in any (and most) decks regardless of symbols are the Infinity cards. The two main culprits are:
- Olcadans Mentoring
- Seal of Cessation

Both Rock Howard and Donovan feature Order as one of their main symbols. Different versions of both Rock Howard and Donovan have also featured the Death, Water, Good (all three Donovan) and All, Chaos and Life (all three Rock) symbols.
For Order, the "staple" cards, depending on deck type and strategy could include:
- Forethought (Flash of the Blades common)
- Makai High Noble (Realm of Midnight common)
- Chinese Boxing (King of Fighters common)
- Tag Along (Domination common)
- Experienced Combatant (Domination uncommon)
- Program Malfunction (Realm of Midnight uncommon)
- Mega Spike (Realm of Midnight rare)
- Charismatic (Warriors Dream rare)
- Defender (Flash of the Blades ultra rare)
- Neo Raging Storm (King of Fighters ultra rare)
- Kuzuryu Reppa (Domination Ken Starter Deck fixed rare)
- Lord of the Makai (Realm of Midnight box topper)
- Blood Runs True (Cutting Edge Starter Display box-topper )
- Amy’s Assistance (tournament promo)
Isn't Seal of Cessatation rotating into legacy? It only has a three point watermark.
Sigh. Apparently SoC (and all the other useless seals) received the 4-point watermark in reprints.
Lame.
There need to be answers to action cards... I just think SoC is overkill, since it's also an answer to pretty much any ability played...

I think after rotation you'll start to see the remainder of the Seals get some more playtime.

this probably is where you want 2 start if you want 2 play either rock or donovan order is a really good symbol right now and has the capability 2 do anything and has answers 2 pretty much anything..
some of these cards however you really dont need as there hard as crap 2 find and are very exspensive 2 buy cards like Lord of the makai, blood runs true and defender are very good but if you dont want 2 fish out the money you can still make a tourney caliber deck without them

Thank you for this awesome post! Of the cards you listed, which would you say are crucial for Order control - if such a thing is feasible.

For Order, you'll definitely want to get sets of these cards as well. High Plasma Beam, Psycho Style, Lord of the Makai, perhaps some Eternal Rule, Dio Cega, Program Malfunction, Dancing Battle Kabuki, Ira-Spinta, and a few others as well. If I think of more that haven't been listed yet, I'll let you know.
Edit: Oops, looks like someone already beat me to it. o_O

Forethought is the key card in the dedicated hard lock Order deck -- the idea is that you immediately start committing all of their foundations from the first turn of the game, and get out a pile of Forethoughts and Spirits of Athens to make your opponent fail even the easiest control checks. Makai High Noble is a tech card against Olcadan's Mentoring, and also has excellent stats. Tag Along is just really good, it needs no explanation. Neo Raging Storm and Kuzuryu Reppa -- and I'd add High Plasma Beam -- basically form an alternative win condition to the Defender loop: You build a ton of foundations over many turns, then play a simple attack string [optionally backed by Personal Style , a starter deck rare from Cutting Edge] for the win. Reppa + Plasma Beam can win games, but Neo Raging Storm provides a lot of punch to take out characters with very large vitality totals and damage reduction cards.
I would add Cutting Edge to the list of staples, especially if you are going to be playing with a lot of aggressive decks. It's probably the best card ever released to just keep you in the game.

For donovan what symbols are you interested in he has options any way you spin it ?
Anyway you spin it! Symbols don't nearly have the allure to me that characters do, plus I figure this way I'll get a general idea of how to build people regardless of symbols.
O/t: BTW, has the attendance for UFS events een going up?

Well the thing is if you go water/death/order I can give you some cards you might want to get.
As for attendence ours has been suffering but its not just UFS: WOW , DB , Naruto have all had at best 4 people latley.

Glad to be of help. Below is an expanded list from the previous, specifically for Order control (which can be played by ANY Rock Howard character or Donovan character). In UFS characters are usually assigned two symbols which they keep through all different character card versions. There are exceptions, but generally two symbols remain (eg, all Donovan’s have Death and Order, all Rock’s have Order and All).
For the "standard" control deck, you’ll maybe want to consider cards that disrupt the opponent, cards that prevent damage and cards that win you the game. There’s nothing “crucial” as such, instead these are the usual suspects which feature in different players Order control decks.
Control cards:
These are cards that provide the basic deck control, either by meta’ing common strategies, disrupting the opponent, providing recursion or all of the above.
- Forethought (Flash of the Blades common)
- Makai High Noble (Realm of Midnight common)
- Chinese Boxing (King of Fighters common)
- Tag Along (Domination common)
- Experienced Combatant (Domination uncommon)
- Psycho Style (Deadly Ground uncommon)
- Program Malfunction (Realm of Midnight uncommon)
- Charismatic (Warriors Dream rare)
- Ira-Spinta (Realm of Midnight ultra rare)
- Blood Runs True (Cutting Edge Starter Display box-topper )
Damage Prevention (Soak) Cards:
These are cards that either stop the opponents attacks from damaging you or reduce damage.
- Assassination Arts (Cutting Edge ultra rare)
- Amy’s Assistance (tournament promo)
- Cutting Edge (Cutting Edge promo)
Win Condition:
You can only control the opponent for so long. These are cards that will win the game for you. Generally players won’t use all of these cards, but will tune their decks towards specific game ending strategies, such as a Defender - Lord of the Makai + attack combo, a Kuzuryu Reppa – Neo Raging Storm chain, a Dancing Battle Kabuki or Lord of the Makai momentum generation into an attack spam, an attack chain focusing on High Plasma Beam or even a combination of the above. While there are many different and equally valid ways to finish the game, the below cards are currently very popular.
- Dancing Battle Kabuki (Cutting Edge uncommon)
- High Plasma Beam (Realm of Midnight uncommon)
- Mega Spike (Realm of Midnight rare)
- Defender (Flash of the Blades ultra rare)
- Neo Raging Storm (King of Fighters ultra rare)
- Kuzuryu Reppa (Domination Ken Starter Deck fixed rare)
- Lord of the Makai (Realm of Midnight box topper)

To The Deranged Bear - FYI, the new Donovan (Realm of Midnight rare) has both Order and Water.
