Deck Idea: My Shub/Cthulhu deck

By Mephistopheles2, in Call of Cthulhu Deck Construction

Hi!

So let's not only talk about that Large Man stuff. I've built a deck a couple of weeks ago I want to share with you guys. Before reading the decklist, here are some info on me: I wish I would be a tournament player, but in my country (Hungary) there are no tournaments organized. The player base is too scattered and too small. Still I try building viable and good decks and I will try to visit a tournament abroad, maybe Italy or Germany if I can make it.

So here is my Khopesh based deck:

3x Thing from the Shore
3x Ravager From the Deep
2x Cthulhu
2x Guardian Shoggoth
3x Sacrificial Offering
3x Called by Azathoth
3x Deep One Assault
3x Khopesh of the Abyss

3x Degenerate Ghoul
3x One of the Thousand
3x Harvesting Mi-Go
3x Jaguar Warrior
1x Y'Golonac
3x Burrowing Beneath
3x Ghoul Taint
3x Shocking Transformation
2x Snow Graves

2x Mystic Bounty Hunter
2x Descendant of Eibon

The idea is to block the opponent with cheap characters and Ghoul Taint until you can shock transform out the Thing from the Shore. It is the ultimate Khopesh abuser, since it can heal! This deck can theoretically deal with everything: Called by Azathoth against Invulnerability and toughness, Support card destruction, massive character destruction. Mystic Bounty Hunter can return the Khopesh if needed and you have that extra investigation icon to solve stories faster. I tested the deck against some of my other decks and it works really good. However I think it can be improved.

Please note that the Dreamlands cycle is entirely missing from my collection! I have ordered it at our local shop so hopefully I will get it soon.

Cheers!

I think you're definitely on the right track, considering Shub/Cthulhu decks built around the Khopesh have won the two largest recent tournament (in Belgium and in Spain).

It's probably the strongest deck type of the current meta but unfortunately, none of the tournament winners have yet posted their exact decks anywhere, so I cannot say how it compares to theirs.

In case you haven't seen, Loprw has posted the Spanish Champion Deck over at CardGameDB: www.cardgamedb.com/forums/index.php

Unfortunately, the European Champion's deck hasn't been posted yet, afaik, but from what I've seen it was quite similar to the Spanish one.

Hi,

As Jhaelen said, in CGDB is posted the Spanish champion deck, also a Cthulhu/Shub deck, if you want to see it ;)

About your deck, since a few months I play a similar deck. I didnt go to the Spanish Championship, but in my group of playing is a good deck. I dont have a great pool of cards, but I try to do a sinergy deck with 3 tratis: Ancient One, Monster and Cultist. I play Ghoulish Workshiper and Seeker of Misteries as reductors, i play 3-4 Ancient Ones (my only Y'Golonac, 3 Tulzscha, 3 Nodens and 1 Azathoth to play as reset with Aziz Chatuluka). Obviously I also play Khopesh, and as you do, I try to put it on the Thing from the Shore. I try to abuse of Tulzscha and Carl Stanford abilities using Cultists, and make use of Ghoulish Workshiper to reduce Ancient Ones and Monsters (as the Thing, the Albinos and Dark Druid -Cultists too-).

I hope the description of my deck helps you in ideas or sinergy.

Kopesh is a Relic and is shuffled into your deck if it leaves play

therefore it cannot be recovered by Mystic Bounty Hunter.

But if it is discarted, you lose it. Maybe for that fact he includes Mystic Bounty Hunter.
