Twin-Linked questions

By schreier, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

My GM has let us buy twin-linked pistols (using the twin-linked rules in Ascension) - I purchased 2 twin-linked Mark IV Command Laspistols (from IH). He has also applied the accurate quality damage bonus to pistols (RAW says basic weapons only .... however, these questions would still apply if I went with 2 basic weapons and recoil gloves)

The basic gun stats are:
Range 70, RoF S/2/-, Dam 1d10+3E, Pen 0, Clip 15, Rld Full, Qualities - Accurate, Reliable

Adding twin-linked will give it the twin-linked quality, which will give it +20% to hit, give an additional hit if hit by 2 degrees of success or more, and use twice the ammo.

First question - do I get 7, 7.5 or 8 rounds of shooting (7.5 would be 7 twin-linked, 1 unlinked) ... my guess is 7 ... if it was SP instead of las, is the answer the same?

Second question - if I make a half-action after taking a half-action aim, how is it resolved? The to-hit roll will be +40% clearly (+10% to hit for accurate, +10% to hit for aiming, +20% to hit for twin-linked) ... how would damage work? Clearly, it would be 1d10+3 base and second hit if make by 2 degrees of success .... would the accurate quality additional damage apply to only the first shot or to both ... and if both, would it be 1 lower for the second hit?

Third question - with semi or full auto - it would add +20% in addition to the semi/auto bonus, and at 2 degrees of success adds an additional hit? (so 1 degree of success at full auto = 2 hits, semi auto = 1 hit /// 2 degrees of success at full auto = 4 hits (3 for auto + 1 twin), semi auto = 3 hits (2 for semi auto + 1 twin), ... then additional hits for semi/full as normal w/ no additional twin-linked) -- sound correct?)

Fourth question - now add two-weapon fighting single fire twin-linked accurate with a half or full turn aim (aim has to be during prior turn)
--- does this resolve just like the second question, except 2 separate to-hit rolls? Can I add a bonus for laser sight?

Fifth question -- now add semi or full auto with two-weapon fighting (no aim since accurate doesn't matter) --- does this resolve just like third question except 2 separate to-hit rolls?

Sixth and Final question --- ok .... dual shot with twin-linked and accurate and aim. Once again, aim has to be done in the prior round since dual shot is a full-round action ... I know it's one roll ... if both guns have red-dot sight - do you get +10? if one has red-dot and one has targeter, do you get +20? +20 for twin, +10 for aim, +10 for accurate? If you make it by 2 successes ... does each gun get the +1d10 damage? Does each gun get the extra hit? Do the extra hits get the +1d10 at two degrees, at four degrees or not at all? As far as armor/toughness ... does armor deduct from all four? does toughness get counted once for all four shots? does it count once for the main 2 shots (so 2 shots combine vs armor x2 + toughness x1) while the extra hits from the twin-linked each goes against full armor and toughness? Something else?

Thanks in advance!

Ive read your questions and researched anything i might have been fuzzy on with the rules and errata and have the following book answers for you.

In Order

1) You would get the FULL ammo count of the weapon ( youve doubled the weapon AND the ammo clips -twinguns=twinclips ) so the number of shots stays the same.

2) First part as to the aim resolution...you are correct you get the +10% for accurate +10% for half action aim and +20% for twin linked for a +40% to hit.

Second part as to damage resolution. you would get your 1d10+3 base Per barrel ( total of 2d10+6 ) and the accurate trait would apply the extra damage to both ( IF you scored dual hit..and dont forget the possibility of righteous fury as well )

3) First off the weapon you are asking about is NOT capable of auto fire it is Single and double shot ONLY so most of this question does NOT apply HOWEVER - for weapons that are semi and / or auto capable i reffer you to the DH corebook pg 190 for full auto burst rules and pg 191 for semiauto burst rules as full auto burst is a FULL round action not a half.

4) I will reffer you to the DH rules errata v3.0 as per FFG for this one under listed Dual Shot Talent ( pg 7 of the errata ) as this is a correction/addendum to the original Dual shot talent you are actually asking about from pg 114-115 of the DHCB

5) Again reffer to the semi-ful auto rules in the DHCB pgs 190-191

6) WOW that was alot of ideas..lol BUT easy to answer... reffer to the DHCB errata v3.0 pg 7 for the answer here since this is nothing but dual shot and the errata has the corrections to and full description of everything you just asked here in #6 ( the errata v3.0 can be downloaded from FFG DH mainsite under the downloads section for free )

Thank you ...

For 6 though, I'm still not sure how twin-linking adds to it ... twin-linking is normally 2 hits - and I believe both hits have armor and toughness applied. With dual shot - you have 2 shots, each with 2 hits. So that is 4 hits against. Normally, there would be 2 hits against (with regular guns), with double armor but single toughness ...

With these 4 hits - do all 4 get added together, have armor applied to each, but only toughness once? If so, that will be HUGE. Does toughness apply twice, twice, i.e. the first shots from each are a dual shot, the second shots from each are a dual shot - or three times ... the main shot from each combines into the dual shot, so 2x armor, 1x toughness ... then the extra 2 shots are normal armor & toughness?

Hopefully that clarifies it a little

The errata v3.0 Dual shot entry on pg 7 addresses those specifics actually. but ill give what it says here word for word (copy and pasted directly ) in case anyone else finds these questions of interest and doesnt know where to find the info.

Dual Shot on page 114-115 should have the addition:
“As you are firing both guns as a single attack, you may
take an Aim Action before firing to get a +10 or +20 bonus
to the BS Test. A red-dot laser sight mounted on any one of the
weapons will provide its +10 bonus. You do not suffer from the
normal –20 BS penalty for wielding two weapons. If you hit, the
target’s armour gets applied as normal to both hits individually,
but Toughness only counts once against the combined damage
rolls of both hits. A single successful Dodge Test from the target
will avoid both shots.”

Basically you will follow BOTH the rules for twin-linked AND Dual shot so if you had twin linked pistols and Dual shot and fired both at same target simultaneously what its saying is that youd get the +20% (twin linked ) +10% ( accurate ONLY on single shot ) and +10%/+20% ( aim ) for the to hit as well as the bonus for red dot sight ( ONE time- ONLY +10% NOT +20% if you have it on both guns ) for a grand total of +50% / +60% ( if full action aim ) to hit

Then for damage it would be the 1d10+3 ( x2 for the twin linked gun (but targets armor is applied to each individual hit ) targets toughness only counts ONE time for the total combined damage of however many hits were scored though ) ( as example if the target has AP 5 and toughness bonus of 5 and you score as needed for 4 hits ( dual shot using 2 twin linked pistols ) it works as follows (weapons base damage of 1d10+3 (x2 = 2d10+6 for the twin linked gun #1 ) the targets AP 5 counts off twice ( 5pts for each of the 2 shots ) for a total of 10pts reduction...and then we add the twin linked gun #2 ( another 2d10+6 ) which has its reduction same as the first one ( another 10pts reduction ) BUT...after you total up the whole thing ( for ease of gameplay ) the equation is like this

4D10+12 ( 1d10+3 X2 for twin linked x2 for dual shot ) -20points AP damage reduction -5points from Toughness reduction ONE time for the WHOLE roll..assuming the scale here ( before reductions thats minimum of 16 points and maximum of 52 points! ) with a TOTAL reduction of 25 points..now assuming a median damage roll score of approx 60% that works out to about 31-32 points reduced by 25 leaves a total of 6 or 7 wounds gone from target..given most have a total of no more than 15 wounds thats a serious chunk of damage. The reason its reduced so much is this...even though its a twin linked weapon..its firing 2 bullets/shells etc...its going to hit 2 different spots on the armor ( IE NOT in the same hole ) so the armor is working against both bullets separately..but the target only gets ONE toughness bonus for the whole deal. ) The dynamic is only slightly complicated but actually quite realistic and helpful to your PCs as well as it helps prevent a fast nasty death if rolls are too poor...

I hope that info and example helped to clarify it for you as well as anyone else that might have had the question

Shouldn't twin-linked act the same as a weapon with Storm trait?

Twin-linked is treated completely different from Storm

You can read the rules in either Rogue Trader or Ascension

Twin-linked

Twin-linked
+20% bonus to hit when fired and uses twice as much ammunition.

score one additional hit if the attack roll succeeds by two or more degrees of success.

the weapon’s reload time is doubled.

Storm
Every degree of success (for Full Auto) or two degrees of success (for Semi-Auto) up to the weapon’s listed rate of fire results in two hits instead of one

uses up ammunition twice as fast as usual
