Genestealer Hybrid Question & more.

By Force21, in Deathwatch Gamemasters

Hello all,

I am fairly new at GMing & I just started a campaign with some friends...

I started off with the Extraction & wanted to continue with the Castobel system still fighting the Tyranids,

I want the set up that Magos Vyakai to have been attacked by Genestealers before the Kill-team could get to him & becomes under the control of the Brood mind without anyone knowing.

ahhh... but now to my question.

Has any have or know which book has Genestealer Hybrids & Cultists? I know that Cultists would be more or less Guardsmen & Civilians...

I found Purebred Stealers in Mark of Xenos...but nothing else I was looking for... :(

Thank you in advance for the help.

You might want to check in the Xenos Anathaema (or something like that) from Dark Heresy. It's been a long time since I opened it, but I quite remember that they had genestealers in it, and not the same as the Mark of the Xenos ones.

In case they do not, you could simply take the stats from a purebreed genestealers and nerf them a bit. Maybe giving it less Agility (even nerfing his unnatural agility) and WP and Sure Strike instead of Lightning Attacks. That could be a good way to represent the fact that they are not a purebreed, but still partly human (or something else). But it also depends of what you want to do with these mutants : use them a simple adversaries the Kill-team will dispatch on the way to the final boss, or use them a the final boss. In the last case, even the purebreed is not strong enough to represent a threat (even against 4 of them, my rank 1 Kill-team managed to get out of the fight almost unscathed). As a final boss, a Brood Lord would be more fitted (and even that is not the most dangerous enemy they could face, far from it).
As for the humans... just giving them the Tyranid trait, to render them immune to fear, and a lot less Fel. than other simple guardsmen should be enough.

But that's just my opinion.

Cool,

Yeah I was planning to make Guardsmen & Civilians change a few things up to make em for the Cultists...

I was planning to make this game session more narrative... so when they make decisions it will affect how may encounters they will run into & for the whole Castobel campaign...

I will have to check with one of my friends that has quite a few DH books...

& also I want to make sure that a squad of Cultists/Hybrids in a Chimera is not too much for the Kill-Team...maybe a few Purebreds for fun. :D

Make them two hordes of magnitude 40, or something around that. That should pose a sufficient threat, without risking to put them into critical damage. Well... if they have a devastator or a tactical specialized in bolter, that be.
That's a good idea, the narrative thing. That's also how I tend to rule my sessions. It gives them more freedom to act, and leave more roleplaying opportunities. You could check the introducting adventures (Final Sanction and Oblivion's Edge) if you want some ideas about that. They deal pretty well with the "depending on how they act, they will have more or less things to kill" thing and the way tertiary objectives can affect the whole scenario.

I checked the Creatures Anathema (that's the good spelling this time) and there is indeed another breed of genestealers described in it, even if it's not classified are purebreed or not. It's got less damage, less stamina and less wounds, but compensates with a higher agility. You might want to check it out ;)

Cool thanks

I will check that out for sure...

I thought about hordes but I don't want to blow all there ammo on them... because they will run into a Genestealer or two...ten..w/e. :D

& they should be able to deal with a Chimera...hopefully.

You're welcome :) I'm here to serve (said in a quite robotic voice totally onlike the Space Wolf I am).

For the Chimera, it should be quite easy. It only has one weapon, and they all have a set including at least 3 krak grenades, so they'll just need to get in close.

Have fun, and don't hesitate to ask, if you need some other information/advice :)

Hey!

Check the website Dark Reign (i think that's it)....it's got oodles of goodies and extras, and, if i recall, a whole writeup on genestealer cults! Very useful, i found.
