The New License

By FFGSteve, in UFS General Discussion

Well for those of us who don't like Tekken like me, I guess the bright side is it's not worse.

Like DoA or MK or something of that. A game that doesn't even try to make itself based on it's gameplay. At least Tekken puts effort into making a game.

Ah well, just have to treat it as business and hope I can flp out at the next liscense annoucement.

I agree but i,m kinda really dissappointed about it being Tekken 6 I thought it would be like any other Kof,SS or Streetfighter but time will tell how this is going to play out.

I personally doubt I will ever flip out at a new license acquired announcement. HOWEVER, I for one welcome our new license overlords. Just that it will likely never be the one I want.

Aw man its not Phoenix Wright...

My inner fanboy would have SO marked out for a PW license it's not even funny. Thankfully my inner realist keeps my inner fanboy in check.

Rawr! Tekken. Adding to the lists of characters people have mentioned, I'm hoping for Lei or Xiaoyu in the first expansion. Other than those two, I'd happily settle for King or Paul.

First expansion, Law and Jin have to be up there for release. They're both archetypal to the series.

Actually, from what I remember reading the only ones that have been in all 6 are Nina Williams, Paul Phoenix, Heihachi, and Yoshimitsu. Marshall Law only skipped on Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag.

I agree definately about Jin though. Him, Heihachi, and Kazuya are all the main members of the Mishima. I think we probably won't see all 3 of them (it would be redundant) but probably Jin and Heihachi, seeing as Heihachi was in Soul Calibur 2 and is one of the big noticable faces of the series. After reading through everything and what peopel think Tekkan 6's plot is, here's my guess for the first 8 characters to be designed:

Jin Kazama - current head of Mishima Zaibatsu and the face of the series. It's like making SF set 1 with Ryu.
Heihachi Mishima - as stated, another really noticeable face of the series. and he's been in every game.
Ling Xiaoyu - chick-friend of Jin.
Paul Phoenix - Been in every game, and seriously, the hair? everyone knows the hair.
Nina Williams - Basically same reason as above, been in every game. Also, hot chick ^_^
Jack-6 - cause the Jack's are also a big staple of the series.
King - because a King hasn't not been in the Tekkan series
Zafina - new character in Tekken 6. Probably will be used to promote the new characters since all the other ones are noticable faces. Also out of the new characters, she's the only female and the other ones are a playboy, a little kid, and an obese American looking guy.

Promos:
Devil Jin - ala Night Terror
Kuma/Panda - can't see them being Set 1 characters, but definately can see them in promos
Azazel - new boss
Kazuya Mishima - because of who he his
Anna Williams - to sit opposite of Nina

I hope they add in this series Yoshimitsu because he seriously looks amazing.

Marshall was replaced in Tekken 3/Tag by Forest as one of those "same difference" scenarios. I was thinking "archetypal" rather than "recurring".

The list of characters you mentioned seems spot on. Everyone knows "the hair." My (blatantly plagiarizing) list would be:

  1. Jin Kazama - Current head of Mishima Zaibatsu and the face of the series. It's like making SF set 1 with Ryu.
  2. Heihachi Mishima - Another really noticeable face of the series. Has been in every game and supports the "Mishima Zaibatsu" game setting.
  3. Law - Bruce Lee archetype, one of the most played and recognised characters in the series.
  4. Paul Phoenix - Similar to Law and possessor of "The Hair." Everyone knows of The Hair. The Hair HAS to be an asset!
  5. Nina Williams - Hot totty and series archetype. Also, hot totty.
  6. Jack-6 - 'cause the Jack's are also a big staple of the series.
  7. King - Similar to the Marshall/Forest Law situation, a variant of King has never failed to feature in the Tekken series. Also Yi Shan may be hiding under the animal-mask!
  8. Zafina - New character in Tekken 6. Likely used to promote the new game/characters alongside recogniseable faces. Zafina in particular to up the number of base-set female characters and as the quotient for US based fighters has already been filled through Paul/Law/King.

Jidny punch deck!!!!!.... sorry inside joke. Been waiting for UFS to get this tittle for a while. Can't wait!!!!!

Er... Tekken sucks. It might as well been the Sonic the Hedgehog fighting game put in.

Agreed on every single one before the fifth. The sixth I couldn't really say since I never, y'know, played it.

Julia/Michelle Chang have either appeared one or the other in every game, and play nearly identical, so I hope that Julia would find a early spot in release, she is also my main play in the series.

My guess for 8 would be.

Paul

Jin

Xiaoyu

Nina

Heihachi

Bob

Zafina

King

If I don't get Asuka in TK01, I'm gonna start knifin'.

It would be coolf if Alex the Raptor was one of the first Tekken promo characters.

Jaguar mask FTW

1st thought while opening my first ufs product, which was an astaroth starter: "man i'm gonna chop someone in half!"

2nd thought while opening that starter deck: "damnit, i wish king was in this with chain grabs"

MAKE IT SO, HATA, MAKE IT SO

And don't let it be broken like happened to me in the game. Breaking. A. Command. Throw. sorpresa.gif

So, the license is for Tekken 6, huh? Does that mean Tekken 6, or Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion? I believe the Bloodline Rebellion is that version that is coming to the US, and it has two new characters.

But if the license is just Tekken 6, that leaves out a few characters...I mentioned this in the other topic. So for example, Alex the dinosaur probably won't ever get any cards at all. He might show up in a card...maybe...(Andy Bogard and Heidern appeared on some cards, despite not being seen in KoF 2006)

I mean, I don't care at all about the bosses or the other Jacks, but no Kunimitsu, Alex, Roger, Michelle, Forest, Combot, Jun, or TIGER makes me a little sad.

Oh well, whatever...

Bloodline Rebellion is the version being released in the states, so I would imagine that's what the license is for.

or...

since the license is T6, it could include ALL characters involved in T6. it's possible - the same way the bonus characters of SC3 were licensed under SC3 (considering they weren't in the arcade game).

*crosses fingers*

Awesome news steve. I want to play a devil jin card for some time. lol. Anyways, look forward to the release of this set.

LMAO!! And thus my girlfriend's dream comes true and she buys two cases of the set when it drops. Thanks FFG, now I won't be able to walk around the house without slipping on cards.

Hey glad to see your still there man hit me up I need to ask you a few questions .

[email protected]

Thanks for that, Steve! Like a good few people here I'm not a fan of Tekken, but I'm not a fan of Samurai Shodown either and that didn't stop me enjoying the Samurai Shodown stuff.

One small question, though: Why do most of the companies only want UFS covering a single entry in their franchises? Street Fighter's the only one that covers all the games in the series. As a result, that's the only one that's timeless, SF sets are always going to be relevant. Soul Calibur III sets, not so much.

Remind me I will ask Steve this in our interview this week .

Horrible. I knew it was coming but that doesn't stop me from being upset.

My faves on Tekken were Yoshimitsu, King, Paul Pheonix, Bryan Fury and Kazuya Mishima.

I can see the first set being a mix of characters, probably the new and "main" characters. Jin Kazama would have to be there as he's the current posterboy of Tekken (same as Ryu is for Street Fighter).

I like yoshimitsu too I wonder if they are going to rename or something since we have yoshi from SC.
