I have never really been a big fan of Tekken but I can see why it can help the game. Having such a big following it is only natural that UFS takes this series under its wings.
BUT..........................................WHY can we not get a full license for KOF????? I know a lot of people who feel that using Maximum Impact as the base for KOF is very limiting, as it leaves out a lot of KOF characters. I mean sure there are like 40+ characters to flesh out in Tekken but KOF has around that many as well.
I guess to sum it this up since Tekken 6 is coming out UFS is getting a Tekken license. When KOF 2002 Unlimited Match comes out will we get a full KOF license?!?

or...
since the license is T6, it could include ALL characters involved in T6. it's possible - the same way the bonus characters of SC3 were licensed under SC3 (considering they weren't in the arcade game).
*crosses fingers*
Well, the bonus characters of SC3 WERE on the disk, ergo... yeah.
ANYWAY, Paul Phoenix, King and Kazuya (provided his 3RP and 6 RK are in the game and represent the T5 versions) will likely be played by me. Maybe Raven if I feel like making a Wesley Snipes joke.
All I can say is I am dissapointed, and I hope none of the idiotic Tekken characters ever make it to UFS. Please no Kuma, Panda, Raptor, Kangaroo, Ogre, Devil, Angel, I know I am missing a few too, this isn't all the stupidity Tekken has to offer us... save the monsters and creatures for Darkstalkers where they belong. Ohter than that, yeha we have a massive influx of characters with no variety and a bunch of clones of other characters (5 Jacks)
Where's the formal announcement?
You'd think that announcing "UFS Fighting Game CCG Acquires Tekken 6 License" might attract some FFG gamers who like Tekken but have otherwise ignored UFS. It's at least worth posting on the main page, right?
And that's not even talking free press from vidgame news sites. I just did a Kotaku search. There is not one article about UFS or "Tekken 6 card game." Toss the vidgame community some press releases, people!

Go back... read Steve's post - "just back from business trip... press release out soon."
It's been exactly one business day since Steve has made the post. Give them some time to breath. Tekken 6 isn't out until at least June.

Personally, I really hope they do expand their SNK licenses. I'd really like to see characters like Shishioh, Shin Shishioh, Silber, Krizalid, Magaki, Hayate, Rugal, Shin Rugal, and several others be made. I'd like to see a Mr. Big made sometime soon, as well.
What would be awesome though is if FFG can work out a deal to place a Tekken 6 Promo character to be released with the game. So maybe the CE version of Tekken 6 (because all games have CE's nowadays) could come with a Promo character.
The 3D fighting system for Tekken (particularly 3 and 5) is one of the best I've experienced, and I actually like it better than that of Soul Calibur. The timing, style, method, almost everything I've enjoyed. I've been waiting for this license for years. Thank you so much for this. I'm looking forward for Ling Xiaoyu and Panda.

If you liked 5, keep in mind it was inspired a bit by Virtua Fighter 4's system, so you may want to check that game out as well.
^ Thanks I might look into that.

How about Lizardman? lol
When it comes to background stories, Tekken is stupid. However, almost every fighting game character has some idiotic background story, this includes Soul Calibur and Street Fighter. On the other hand, people take it lightly and just laugh at it, which is what should happen since the stories don't make much sense anyway.
Gameplay is a totally different area. Regardless of how dumb a character may be in terms of looks or species in this case, the fighting system is well designed. And characters with, as you say, "no variety" are normally those that are simple to play with and with a much smaller movelist than others (more than half the characters of Soul Calibur 4 is like this). This was made by the developers b/c many people just want to play casually with no complication. And in 2D fighting games, the variety in each character, actually every character, is much much less like in any Street Fighter in terms of the movelist.
At least the fighting system in Tekken is well thought out. If you compare the fighting system to let's say Super Smash Bros. Brawl, it doesn't even compare. The appeal in that game was the characters themselves, and I found myself smashing buttons a lot. It's nice to see favorite classic character fight each other, but I'm mostly in the fighting game scene for the system and gameplay (the characters I grow into later). And that to me is not stupid in any way, especially in Tekken. There could be a stupid monkey character in a game, but that doesn't make the overall game stupid (unless the whole game revolve around one stupid character).
But that's just the video game. The cards is obviously in a different field. I never played KoF or Samurai Showdown video games, but I've enjoyed the cards. Same for Penny Arcade, but that's just pure comedy. Regardless of any new license, I'll enjoy it (even if it's Pheonix Wright, oh especially that)
Sorry I just had to defend my favorite game, I'll leave now.

I don't think anyone has ever tried to compare a fighting game with a game that isn't in the same genre... Comparing it to say... Virtua Fighter would be proper, but Smash isn't even a fighting game. It is a 4 player, party game where everyone has the same command inputs and they just so happen to be fighting. It's a fun game, don't get me wrong, but in no way is it a "Fighting Game". Sorry, just had to say something.
As far as Tekken vs. Virtua Fighter... VF is by far more realistic and requires a fair amount of skill to learn and play well. Most Tekken characters require you button mash to beat your opponent. Plus the amount of air juggling and ground pound is staggering, whereas in VF you can hit your opponent once on the ground and maybe twice in the air before the game engine will no longer register a hit, which gives the opposing player a fiar chance to get back up and defend themselves. The only thing that really requires precise timing and skill in Tekken is King's Chain throws, which is probably why King is the only character I ever really played seriousley. Anyway, I know you have to defend Tekken, I get that, I'm not saying it is bad for the game, I am personally dissapointed that it wasn't a lisence from a better fighting game. Just because it has sold well, does not make it good. Look at the Transformers movie, Titanic, and Halo 3... all terrible, but people buy into the hype and special effects.
^ Every character in Tekken can arguably be said to need precise timing and skill. I played this game competively in arcades and tournaments, and button smashing is a terrible thing to do in this game, even if there's some strange method to the smashing. Also, the more times you hit your opponent in air juggles, the less damage each following hit does (it looks amazing or cheesy but it really isn't). The same occurs for combos in Soul Calibur. I also don't know much about the sales, I just play the game. The amount of how much it sold is something I could care less. The Wii is the best selling console, but for me it's not the best console. And also, I only consider Super Smash Brawl as a fighting game because Gametrailers treated it as so. I too don't think it's a "real" fighting game but I mentioned because of the character appeal in opposition to the actual fighting system.
To me, any fighting game (or any particular genre for that matter) can be appealing to different people and I never would say one is better than the other. I met people who hate Tekken but love Soul Calibur and vice versa. The arguments between these two groups of people just baffles me sometimes, like they don't accept the reason it's just a preference. Also, how realistic a game is doesn't make it a better system. Street Fighter had hadokens, tornado kicks, stretching arms, or super power up combos. And getting hit by a weapon like Soul Edge would probably kill you in one hit realisticly especially to a little girl named Talim. Personally, I think most of us play games because it's NOT realistic and hopefully appealing.
Thanks for reminding me, I have to take a look in the Virtua Fighter series again. I stopped at 2.
Oh well, I hope for great cards to come.

Highly suggest picking up 5 if you have one of them newfangled current-gen consoles. 4 Evolution for PS2 if you don't.

Honestly, Tekken's on the low end of the totem pole for me, as well. Personally, I'd rather have the SNK licenses expanded, as I've expressed before. However, we also must remember, that in addition to providing such excellent games as UFS, FFG is also in this to make money. They are a business, so of course they're going to go for the licenses that make the most money, first.
I for one think that Tekken is a awesome license to add to our evolving UFS universe.
Good console game or not, that is a matter of personal preference, but I believe that Tekken will bring more visibility and higher exposure to the game we all spend our hard earned money on. And of course there still is a lot of other licenses out there that we would like or not like to see come out and only the future will tell is there is hope for your favorite to enter the arena.
I really miss playing Tekken.
I'd love for the SNK license to be expanded. I'd love for Capcom to loosen the strings and give FFG more to work with (think of the Capcom side of MvC2; also, Eagle!). I'd love for Guilty Gear or Killer Instinct to make an appearance.
But Tekken really does make the most sense, because it's insanely popular, it has lots of characters that are easily recognizable (look at this thread and you'll see what I mean), and it's got a lot of potential for its mechanics to expand the game we already play (King's throw chains being the most obvious example).
Why not just enjoy the fact that our beloved UFS is getting bigger and better? New popular license = more cards and more players = more fun.
We all were drawn in by something, after all...
BUUUUUH!
Needless to say, I have many different thoughts going through my head, and some people know why...
But I want to clarify on some things that people don't seem to be getting...
If there's one thing I'm getting tired of seeing, it's something along the lines of,
"Tekken has so many clones! We don't need 6 different Jacks, two bears, Raptor and Kangaroo, two Kings, Devil and Angel, etc etc"
So, allow me to clarify. This is Tekken 6 (which is assumed to include Bloodline Rebellion). If you go to Wikipedia and look at the char roster, you'll see that the only version of Jack is Jack-6 (unless they include NANCY, who isn't even really a Jack at all lol), and really, every Jack has had a different personality. Some Jacks were sent by the Mishimas to kill people, some Jacks are just lost and confused, and some really are just kinda there (P-Jack lol). Either way, look forward to only one Jack.
Kuma and Panda are similar in playstyle (as really, Panda was pretty much a palette swap in Tekken 3 and onwards), but their stories are quite clearly nothing alike. Panda is Ling Xiaoyu's pet and somewhat of a bodyguard, and Kuma used to be Heihachi's evil guard bear, but then he moved into the forest with the intent of beating the crap out of Paul Phoenix. He also loves Panda lol. Ergo, although their moves are all-in-all the same, they're not the same character. In Tekken 2, Kuma had a different color that made him appear polar, but that was just a color, and not another character.
Alex and Roger aren't in Tekken 6. Roger Jr is, and actually has a story lol.
King and Armor King are actually rather different, not just in story, but in fighting style. In T5:DR, King is awesome, as opposed to Armor King, who's pretty much crap.
Devil and Angel aren't in Tekken 6, and really, we'll probably never see them again. Devil (referring to Kazuya being overtaken by the Devil Gene) has pretty much been spiritually replaced by Devil Jin (who is really more appropriate anyways). As far as I'm aware, Angel really isn't important. It's Kazuya's good side, but canonically speaking, Kazuya never really turned into Angel.
So yeah, just had to get those out of the way since nobody else did. The great thing about Tekken is that its characters are actually really interesting. Marshall Law isn't just some Bruce Lee copy like Fei Long is; he's been a chef, an entreprenuer, and father. Ganryu isn't just some sumo character. He's a really shady crook (or rather, used to be), a bodyguard, and as of recently, owns a Hawaiian restaurant XD.
So yeah, stop drinkin that hatorade >:|
I think the starting line-up for Tekken would be...
Jin, Kazuya, Paul, King, Law, Jack-6, Steve, Nina, and Eddie.

Hell nah
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that my Tekken set 1 fanset is probably going to be correct in terms of characters. For those who never saw it, my set (and prediction for the real thing) included...
Heihachi
Jin
King
Law
Nina
Paul
Yoshimitsu
Now, I think they're going to do...what, like 8 characters, right? Something like that. If that's the case, they'd probably add Kazuya to the list.
Anyways, I think that'll be correct because Heihachi, King (King 2 schming 2, King is King), Law, Nina, Paul, and Yoshimitsu have been playable characters in every single Tekken game. Jin is obvious because he's the protagonist (or, as of lately, just the main character), and Kazuya's a possibility as well seeing as how he used to be the main character, but is still extremely important.
There's a slight possibility we'll see Jack or Julia, since a version of Jack has been playable since Tekken 1, and the Chang bloodline has been in every game (from Michelle to Julia), but Jack isn't exactly a "pushing" character, and Julia didn't come around until 3.
So yeah, just an educated guess.
man why tekken?
tekken has 3 good characters in the entire series, one of them already exists here, one of them is misnamed (ogres don't have wings it's a dragon you fools!) and the other is pretty generic in terms of fighting style. all that's special about king is his tiger head and is that's what sells cards then why not pick bloody roar?
surely there are better choices?
soul calibur was a good choice, though 2 was better than 3 in most ways and the lack of inferno and SC2 lizardman (who played completely differently from the SC3 version) was kind of infuriating.
street fighter I'll admit was a good choice, not a fun one but one nessicery to get the initial fan base but now you have that we need more fun stuff.
penny arcade was meh but it probably got the game off to a good start.
king of fighters/samuri showdown seemed pointless to me. 1 truly serious fighting game (SF, SC doesn't quite count) should be enough.
darkstalkers, though not a game I know, is both fun storyline wise and card game wise. a real step in the right direction. why then did you go back and make more sets of the more boring licences instead of more DS or new licences in the same vein?
people here actualy had me convinced it would be something talesish, after all, a spot of magic would work wonders here (then again, that's what makes it magic), but instead you had to have tekken. tekken could well be the most boring licence in the entire game! congratulations!

yeah! we could have such exciting characters like "Man with Sword", "Healer Girl", "Magic Chick", "Annoying Kid", "Black Man", and "Gigantic Sword with Boy Accessory!"
if we're going to do anything JRPG like, you might as well use a fighting game, and a good one at that, and get Evil Zone...
Also keep i mind everyone we cant always have our cake and eat it too as Steve has said before in our interviews its a lot involved in obtaining a license . Which is why with shadowar they are able to do things much easier with design and art . But onto the topic at hand I think its great anytime we get a new license since usually that means more players I myself didn't start playing till Dark stalkers was announced that hooked myself so hopefully Tekken can do that same for future players.
