Criticals and Insanity Points...

By Otter, in Rogue Trader Rules Questions

I've read and searched the RT rulebook and the forums and can't find the answer... Are Insanity Points not gained after a Critical hit (such as in WFRP 1st & 2d ed.)

I read the sections on Crits and Insanities, am I missing the connection, or does it not happen in RT as there are enough other things to get IP's from.

Thanks

Unless you want to houserule it, you don't gain insanity points from taking crtical damage.

Like Errant said, it's not a rule in Rogue Trader. I dont' really advice you to use that as a houserule since Insanity works very different in WHFRP 1st and Warhammer 40k Roleplaying Games. In old Fantasy, every 6 Insanity you got a derangement, but you always kept your character under your control. In Warhammer 40k RPGs, your character becomes an NPC as soon as he gets 100 Insanity. If we take into account the violence of the 41 Millenium, characters are really spected to take Critical Damage fairly often, so that houserule seems a little bit hard if you are planning to run a long duration game.

I would also like to add that in WHFR 1st Edition (at least the spanish version), you only gain the 1 Insanity point if you get Critical Damage on the Head, not for every Critical.

It wouldn't be outside the bounds of reason to give players Insanity points, or a test for them, if they suffer a severe crippling injury. This would be offset by the Jaded talent. Losing a limb can be mentally dis-stabilizing, even if you have an augmented replacement.
