Can the Greatjon stop dragons?

By darkpony, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hello,

I've never fully understood the text on Greatjon Umber but to me it always sounds like he could be added to either SIDE of a challenge:

"Challenges: Kneel Greatjon Umber to have him participate in the current or challenge as either the attacker or as the defender."

If my opponent is going to win the challenge already I was thinking it couldn't hurt to add the greatjon to his attack to prevent dragony effects like:

"After you win a challenge in which Viserion participated and all of your participating characters have the Dragon trait, choose and discard 1 location with a cost less than the number of participating characters you control."

Would that work?

thanks!

No. It would not work. Jumping Greatjon in on your opponent's side is legal, but that does not make him "your opponent's" character. The "all of your participating characters" restriction on the dragons is about who controls the characters, not which side they are on.

Case closed!

thanks!

It was a nice and creative idea, though. I think it might be cool to have characters that work that way - not only forcing control of them on your opponent, like Wharf Rats or the Honor Guards, but also forcing him to use them in challenges, maybe with an additional benefit to you/drawback to them when they do.

Has something like that been around in the CCG days?
