Anyone got any thoughts on how to blank mammoth riders so they stay in play?

The only permanent fix to it that I can think of would be Milk Of The Poppy but there are probably far more better uses for MOTP than to keep Mammoth Riders in play. There might be more, but again, there's probably better uses for the blanking effects than on the Riders.

Given that they have "No Attachments" MotP is not an option, but something like Nightmares or the new Meera Reed would do the trick, but only for one round. And I would much rather use those offensively, unless I had an overwhelming need to win dominance this round. A Minstrel's Muse turn to win the game would be a worthwhile scenario, but that's about all I can think of.

The Nightmares idea is going to be tough to pull off without help from an opponent considering that once you play the Riders, you cannot play any more cards from your hand that round. And anyway, I hate to break this to you, but none of those "until the end of the phase" effects will work in the end. All "until the end of the phase" effects wear off before any "at the end of the phase" effects initiate. So blanking their text during the challenge phase with something like Nightmares or Meera is not going to let them make it to the Dominance phase.

You're going to need a constant blanking effect. Given the "no attachments" on them, the only one available is the plot Fortified Position. This plot has the added benefit of blanking them as they come into play during the Marshaling phase, so the "after you play" text on them doesn't apply, either. Of course, that blanking only lasts for 1 round and they will be bounced to your hand at the end of the next Challenge phase. (Their text does not, after all, say they return to hand only at the end of the challenge phase of the round they were played.)

If you want them to stay in play permanently, you're going to need a 3-card combo. Reveal the plot Fortified Position. All characters text boxes will be blank. Play the Mammoth Riders. Their text box will be blank as soon as they come into play. Now play Milk of the Poppy on them - which is legal because both the "no attachments" and the "no more cards this round" text were blanked out as soon as the card entered play. When Fortified Position goes away, the Riders will still be blanked by Milk of the Poppy.

That's a heck of a lot of effort for an 8-STR military icon, though.

Is there a way to put them into play rather than playing them to avoid that part of the text? If I can put them into play, then poppy them, that would seem to be the best way. I just can't figure a way to do that.

Your best bet is to use something like See Who Is Stronger to get it out of your discard pile, or hope that an opponent plays Narrow Escape after they have been killed/discarded from play. Then blank it with something in the Marshaling phase, then play Milk of the Poppy on it. Your 3 card combo is now a 4-5 card combo. There are better options if you want a cheap, high-STR military icon, Wildling or otherwise.

haha ya i forgot about that. im not even sure why i am trying to do this. i make up these little achievements that i have in my head and try to accomplish them whether they turn out to be useful or not
