Joffrey Baratheon from Kings of the Sea: "... pays gold to marshall ..."

By mikulas2, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hi,

I've been wondering whether

  • Response: After an opponent pays gold to marshall a character, put that gold on Joffrey Baratheon. (Limit once per round.)

means one single gold piece, or all the gold spent on one character?

Thanks for clarification

It means all the gold, I believe.

As soon as an opponent marshals a Character you may use the Response to put all of the Gold Cost of that Character onto Joffrey, but you can only use this Response once per Round. So be smart about which Character you're going to use this Response on. I've been caught using it for a 3 cost before and suddenly they decide to marshal a 5 cost too that I miss out on a little while later.

Is it the gold cost, or the amount of gold actually paid? If my opponent plays, say, The Red Viper, but reduces the gold they pay to 3 gold, does Joffrey get 3 or 5? The way it's phrased, I assume it's 3.

It is the actual gold paid for the character, not the unmodified cost of the character.

Proper love ktom me like :-)

That's great, thanks guys. Seems I'll happen to like Joffrey after all.

Not to sound like a jerk here, but you do realize that the gold only serves as a gauge to measure the new STR of Joffrey, right? You can't spend it or anything, and it doesn't count for Dominance.

No offense intended, I'm just checking.

Sure enough, but it's always nice to have a meaty character in play. Like this he gets to sky-high STR in no time.
