Tabletalk away from the table?

By iceberg84, in Battlestar Galactica

Would you allow players in your game to go to another room to discuss strategy away from the prying ears of potential or revealed cylons? For example, during a skill check to decide not to try to pass (or fail) the check to fool the other team into dropping skill cards?

Or do you think that any kind of strategizing should be discussed at the table in front of all players?

The game moves kind of fast even though it can last a while so I would try and keep players at the table.

Its not like the Cylons or Humans can do more than add cards to skill checks to thwart the others strategy. If you take that into account revealing it at the table doesnt really mean much

I'd say that if anyone felt like they had to leave the room to talk then they are taking the game far too seriously. :) And they're slowing it down! If they have a problem with it, tell them spies are everywhere and leave it at that.

x2.

Yeah, leaving the table is a bit much.

Yeah, it was an issue that came up during a game and I wasn't sure how to handle it. Two players wanted to talk about strategy and two others were complaining that they shouldn't be allowed to do that. Unsurprisingly the two who ran out were humans and the two who were complaining were cylons.

I would go so far as to say it's cheating.

It's difficult to imagine any strategizing that a) does not break the rules of secrecy and b) could possibly be opposed by other players.

Even so, because of the rules of secrecy, discussing strategy in another room is sketchy at best, and is basically cheating.

I would think this goes against the spirit of the game. It's not Avolon Hills' Diplomacy after all.

Not covered in the rules, but not illegal. I'd probably allow it.

Well, the game does have rules about what communication can and cannot occur. How can you enforce those rules when people are speaking out of earshot of everyone else? For that reason (and because it is an activity clearly not contemplated by the rules in a game where player communication is very important) I would say it is illegal.

Even if you don't think it is illegal, it is CLEARLY Cylon activity. I would toss these players in the brig!

I would not worry about "enforcing the rules", because I don't play with people I would suspect of cheating anyway.
