Couple of Questions Answered

By Horsa, in Tannhauser

I received an e-mail from Adam Sadler at PP regarding my 2 questions. Here are the questions and his responses:

Rule Question:
1) Heizinger's Hermetica Occulta requires a non-Obscura Korps figure to make a mental dual to enter a circle on his path. Only one test allowed. Do you need to make a mental dual if you are already on a circle on his path and wish to move to another circle on his path?

2) Main rule requires you to spend an action to use equipment. Hoss' Reichdoktor seems to be activated during another freindly character's activation. Is this correct or does Hoss need to spend an action during his activation to put 2 successes on another friendly character?

Rule Response:

1) Yes, a character lacking the Obscura Korps symbol must always test to enter a circle on his path.

2) The Reichdoktor ability does not require an action.

It does seem that you are limited to one test to get on Heizinger's path and that is as far as you get.

Only 1 test allowed to me is to illustrate that you can't just keep trying to mental duel until you win. I would say you need to make a test for each circle you want to enter, but once you fail you have to stop trying- that or only 1 failure per circle, but that seems funky.

Hello Peter,

1. Mizu had space in her pack, which is why there was an extra token included. Currently there are not a card for it but players may use it as a bonus token using the existing Celerity rule.

2. No, he must be able to legally move into the adjacent circle. Since this is not a movement, Hoss cannot pay the extra movement point to enter that circle.

3. Using Shadowflash essentially gives Mizu three movement points. She can enter movement modifier circles as long as she has enough movement points to pay the cost of the circle. She cannot move through enemy figures during this movement.

Thanks,

Sorry to say that, but maybe you should have posted in the "Rules questions and answers from FFG" topic. But whatever, it's nice that you share the answers.

Looking at the answers, I have to admit I see some problems. The answer regarding Heizinger doesn't say anything about the "only 1 test allowed" part that's the real problem with the ability. The answer regarding Hoss' Prescience ability seems to be even more strange as Prescience doesn't say anything about movement points. It simply states that Hoss can move into another circle. Therefore, the answer seems to be illogical to me. The same goes for shadowflash: The ability to move 3 circles is not the same as getting 3 movement points. Or if it IS the same, why isn't it stated in the rules?

I´ve posted them to the FFG-Question-Thread...

Regarding the movement points: I think it was unclear and so they clarified it with movement = movement points

Sorry, I don't think so. Shadowflash states that Mizu "may move 3 circles". That's a very simple and clear statement, and the official answer now kind of contradicts it. The rule should state: "She gets 3 MP." or "She may move 3 MP." if it was meant that way.

You are right, I should have put this under the previous section sorry.

I have sent a follow up question to FFG on the Occulta as I can see why the answer is still not 100% clear.

I think the game rules are in a state of flux due to the change to the new company and my concept that this is not a game that has a lot of visibility at FFG. Clearly changing moving one circle to having one movement point is a clarification which simplifies where you can move. Most of the time they would be equivalent. There are a number of different circle types coming in to play and this helps clarify and simplify where you can move.

I read all the answers another time, and now I'm convinced that Mr. Sadler knows the rules of Tannhauser less than us: I think not only he never played to Tannhauser, but he never read the rules analysing them.

The last example is the answer about Hoss' Prescience: the general rule means (in example) if a character has 7 movement points, he can end his seventh movement on a circle with rubble, because come in the circle with rubble is different to cross it, only to cross the rubble a character need additional movement point/s. In light of that, Hoss is able to use Prescience to come in a cirlce with rubble: I beleve in that not because it's my opinion, but 'cause of it's written.

A lot of Mr. Sadler's answers are absurd (not only strange).

I trust in the Miah's answers much more than these.

PS: sorry for all my eventual gammatical mistakes, but I hope to have been clear.

Sorry, but I think you are wrong about the rubble. The Revised rules state on page 15: "A moving character who enters a Movement modifier circle must pay a modified movement cost at the time of entry." So I'd say a character with 7 MP can't end his 7th circle of movement in a circle containing rubble.

I think you are right about another, and really more important point, though: Some of the official answers are absurd, meaning they do not fit the matching rule or ability text, but in a way contradict it. The problem is that players who just buy the packs and read the rule booklets instead of reading through pages of FAQ won't play these rules or abilities as they were meant to be played.

I'm really sorry, I've a mistake.
