Nobles and other Home Worlds

By Letrii, in Dark Heresy

Since Noble is a Home World and not at the same time. You have an actual home world you are from as well as being noble IMO. So far example a void born noble. My question is do you get to pick either stat array and do you still count as void born for background packages? Do you still get void born starting traits or are they replaced/added to by noble traits?

Noble is an Origin, thus, you pick only it, no mixes. It's an odd Origin, but, it's one. One of my players combined it with another before, and it did NOT work out.

Nobles walk in a different circle then everybody else. They are more worldly (stellar?) and belong to a community that tends to span planets as opposed to cities or hab blocks. Most all nobles in the Calixis sector are directly affected and interested in the trends and fashions of Scintilla and the machinations of Malfi. They are not as strictly defined by geological boundaries as the unwashed and untraveled masses and many come from houses and corporations that span multiple systems and, as such, come from a more diverse genetic stock as opposed to the commoners. Thus, the mere planet they may have been born on will affect them far less then the family they were born into.

The lesser nobles, the ones whose house can only claim a single spire or a part of one, are far more tired up with the place of their birth and are far closer to petty commoners then the more powerful and stately nobles. These lesser nobles will have other origin planets (such as Hive Planet / Spyre Noble). They and their house are not big enough players in the interstellar politics and noble community to have been altered, changed, or influenced by it enough.

At least, that's how I justify there being a Noble Background independent of planetary background ;-)

After all, if a start hopping noble has to be influenced by the place they were born, then I should think that the Schola Progena students should to... and the Mind Wiped (even if they can't remember)...

Nothing that I could add to Graver. Well spoken, for sure!

Indeed the background of the nobles: Are they connected to the merhcants, the military etc is already given for a choice in the Nobles 'Peer' selection and thier families connections. That in turn will give you the flavour of the nobles upbringing and what they are closer to in terms of knowledge and whom they associate with.

Nobles are not generally born and live in space (their families tend to rule from a singular world where they accumulate thier power-base from), another reason why nobles tend to have more fellowship, and void born don't exactly have such a facade with others.

The exception to 'noble' voiders are of course the astropaths; but they are almost a different breed of Human with the third eye and the mating restrictions and don't count as nobles in the sense that they don't rule others and amass wealth.

I think you mean the navigators and not astropaths.

Yes, thank you.

The navigators.

Some of the fluff has one of the Chartist ships run like a noble family and his servants. I thought that would be a good case of blending the 2 backgrounds.
